Linux on iPod 5th Gen?

Hey lads!

So I happen to have a spare iPod 5th Gen that has happened to be sitting on a shelf collecting dust, and I would like to put it to use. Of course, I do not want to do what everyone else does, such as a media player. Instead, of course, I wanna put a Linux distro or something on it like tails. This would act as a portable, secure mini computer I could use. Does anyone either have any ideas in terms of distro and / or use for it, or how to actually go about it?

Thanks,
- The Burrito.

Well I don't really think is possible because the kernel source for the custom SoC Apple uses in their device is not available to the public. If it was available you could've compile your own version of Ubuntu, as an example (because it's already available for ARM devices). If you're able to revers-engineer their OS and get the kernel sources you could do it.

sounds very difficult, but I may look into it yet, thanks :)

what version of ipod touch? Classic, nano, etc rockbox has a compatibility list

5th gen, which doesn't seem to be on there :(

I've got a 5th gen. I can confirm there's no way to get anything other than apple's software running on it.

At least, no publicized way. Someone may have figured it out, but if so, they haven't posted about it on any of the forums.

yeah ok, im still working on it now, so i'll update when or if I get it working but im going to try setting up a proxmox server and running a vm to it, that way I can not only run it on the iPod, but also my phone and whatever next.
