(Linux) Mouse buttons stop working |A recent Xorg update fixed the issue

Hi,
My mouse buttons stop working for some reason. it is a problem in both different manjaro distros and OpenSuse tumbleweed, not sure about anything else so far.

I read on some old posts from pre 2012 that there might have been something with the kernel, i am not sure if this is it now though. this happens across desktop enviroments (KDE, openbox and i3), in i3 if i do the mod+shift+r which restarts the window manager makes the mouse buttons function once more.

I have been installing this over the weekend so i have no idea if this would hvae worked earlier, i will reboot and see if an old version of ubuntu i have lying around would work

I get the same result with a PS/2 mouse

same in ubuntu mate, i think the one i have on live CD might be a beta version though, but i know the mouse has worked on different computers with that live CD

After using the computer some more it doesn’t seem like the buttons stop working but the focus of the mouse is stuck on a window/a subsecion of the window while the pointer is on another

I don’t have a solution, but which buttons stopped? The normal left/right and (or) middle/scroll?

Sorry for the late response. in the start it seemed like the mouse buttons stopped working but i have updated the OP and now it rather seems like the focus of the mouse if stuck in certain windows/subsection of windows

try hitting the ESC key, ive had this happen with VM windows and other things

the kernel you are using(4.17) are bleeding edge. id try another kernel, say 4.16 (stable) or 4.14 (LTS)

I know this sounds dumb but… have you tried a different mouse? Have you tried wayland? have you tried using your mouse with GPM with a framebuffer webbrowser or something like that?

I have tried with a PS/2 mouse as well, I am not sure what you mean by the framebuffer web browser and the GPM or how to actually do it. I tried to start GPM at least and that didn’t do anything
