Hey guys, I want to play audio on a TV through HDMI but I cant set the audio out to hdmi.
Try pulseaudio settings? Also referred to as pavucontrol.
That's assuming you're not using KDE or something. Any other DE probably has it pre-installed. I think KDE has it's own manager.
right click audio icon at bottom right of panel and select sound preferences. make sure it is selcted under the hardware tab and then check the output tab for the same
also if this is a new install make sure you do the updates and reboot first because my settings did not show up until i updated
For Cinnamon:
Left click speaker icon in task bar - output device - select device.
You might be surprised by the number of audio output devices you have, I currently have 7.
Make sure your HDMI/DP cable is plugged in or it may not appear.
Watch out as some older video cards had HDMI ports but did not pass sound out through them.
What are your settings and does hdmi show up in your PA settings
Linux Mint Cinnamon 2.8 : Left click on the speaker icon > Output Device > HDMI
