It has gotten better but you still need to do device support research.
I’m using Ubuntu 19.10 on my Linx 12v64 at the moment and it works fine. I tried a few different ones and had issues with sound. Android x86 for example had no sound at all, neither did Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I tried Ubuntu Mate, because it was lite, but it wouldn’t even boot up in a live session.
There is only one thing that is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 and that is the screen orientation is back to front. So when you hold the the tablet in landscape, the screen is in portrait mode and vice versa. I’ve done some video’s on it:
