Linux Compositors setting FPS to lowest common denominator between two monitors

Hey everyone,

This is one hell of a loaded and perhaps very unique question/problem.

I have a 1440p 144hz monitor, and a 1080p 60hz monitor in my setup.

I've noticed that various Linux compositors (KWin, Mutter, Compton) when enabled are setting the compositing FPS to the lowest common denominator, in this case the 60hz monitor.

With the compositor on, with my 144hz monitor, scrolling in Firefox feels jittery. Furthermore, in games with the compositors enabled in the case of Kwin, it literally caps the games fps at 60 even if I am on the 144hz monitor.

This isn't a problem on Windows 10.

I can fix the issue in the case of Kwin by disabling compositing all together: games and firefox are as smooth as they should be.

I would like Kwin compositing on for ease of use purposes, is there a way to make the compositor stop limiting to 60hz?
