based Linus be praised.

Oh awesome. Over clocking supports hit amdgpu I'm gonna have to play around with that a little I think once 4.8 hits or I try out the dev kernel branch

I took the liberty to edit the post title. What title is "4.8" anyway?

Back on topic: yes 4.8 is a great milestone, but 4.9 will be even more exciting if AMD gets to implement DAL and freesync for amdgpu-pro. At that point the Linux and Windows drivers would have feature parity.

Yep Ubuntu 16.10 also comes with this new kernel.

Good.

If Ubuntu can keep their OS up to date and stop fucking around with proprietary software, then ubuntu might make a huge come back.

Yes, mainline kernels are released every 2-3 months.

AFAIK not happening at least not at the moment.

Where's the info on this not happening?

A Phoronix article i read a few weeks ago, perhaps a week ago.

Ah I see, do you remember the reason or was it just the time frame?

It wasn't on the schedule of things to be completed, il try dig it out.

@Eden

Update: Another missing feature worth mentioning is no
DAL support yet either in this PR. DAL is needed for FreeSync, Polaris
audio support, and other display features.

It's Phoronix so take that as you will.

Seeekreets. Engineers are not allowed to just put stuff into the kernel driver. Corporate IP lawyers looking over their shoulder and smacking them on the head. Wonder why NV are so militant in opposing any free driver? Seeekreets my friends. Must protect the IP.

Edit: For example, it took about four weeks to code a working Vulkan driver for Radeon cards. Not perfect, but still working good enough to run games. Meanwhile AMD Legal used eight months to decide if they could release their Vulkan driver. Eight months!

You might want to wait a bit before using 4.8, a "kernel killing bug" was shipped with it, courtesy of Andrew Morton, a google employee.

It will soon get sorted.
