Limited Access

Hi all,

So this seems to be a common problem I have found but have yet to find an answer. Here is the situation, for the past couple weeks I have been using a Netgear wireless network adapter to connect to my wifi and whenever my computer went to sleep/woke up or even randomly sometimes I would get limited internet access. I would try unplugging the adapter, restarting the router and the normal trouble shoot to no avail. I would have to restart my computer just to use the internet. I figured it was the wireless adapter so yesterday I switched to a wired connection and this morning ran into the same exact problem. I am not sure if I have the router set up wrong or if we just need a new router because this isn't the only problem I've had with it (it drops the wireless randomly and outputs 1 Mb/s when wired gives 20 Mb/s). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mordecai

try this, best guess I have.

"Device Manager. Open the Network adapters section, right-click your wifi adapter and choose Properties. Navigate to the Power Management tab, uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device."

Or is your power management in control panel set to anything but high performance? My guess is windows is limiting the device while asleep but not fully waking it up.

I just switched the power management to best performance, if that doesn't work I'll try your first post. Right now I have a lan line running to my PC but like I said in my post I still got the limited access after waking my computer.

So the power management did not work I will try your first post and see what it does for me.

Any luck?

Sorry for the late response. Unfortunately sense I chose to run a Lan Line there is no network adapters that I can find that I would be able to change settings of. I just have left my computer running to resolve this issue but I'm sure over time that will take a toll on my electric bill and I'd like to try to avoid that.

Just a quick update. I updated the firmware on my D-link DIR 655 from version 1.22 to 1.34. The reason why I didn't try that before is whenever I checked for in update on the configuration site it said the 1.22 was up to date. The router seems to be running stronger now with the updated firmware and I'll put it through it's paces to see how it holds up.
