Light Weight Linux Distro

I need a linux flavor that supports steam and all that good stuff but it has to be relavtively light-weight.

Lubuntu, Xubuntu, also Zorin OS lite. Arch is another good one to

The thing with lubuntu it says

Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libc6 (>= 2.15)

when i try to install

Try using Zorin OS Lite then

ill give it a spin.

Elementary is pretty light weight.

Arch and gentoo are the lightest you can possibly get.

Yeah but if he is a new to linux you can't expect him to jump to arch and gentoo immediately, he first need to be comfortable with using the terminal and all other good stuff. Remember arch and gentoo are for advance users not beginners..

manjaro

Im gonna try out zorin os 7, my main issue is compattiblility... and remember i dont need to go too light, my specs(my old pc) are intel core 2 duo e6300, with 2gb ddr3? ram.

I have yet to get Manjaro to install on any hardware with either the grahical or command-line installer. I haven't tried full-on Arch style yet as I would rather just install regular Arch in that case. To that end, Manjaro is no easier to get than Arch.

You have plenty of room for regular Ubuntu or even Kubuntu. If you are comfortable with researching and using command-line, use Arch or Gentoo. If you want something to get up and running quickly with a light-but-complete system, Xubuntu is probably your best bet.

What compatibility are we talking about here: hardware, software, general, specific, etc.? If you want the best compatibility, I think RHEL will do you the most good, but it has license costs.

Bodhi is pretty lightweight too and has that very intuitive enlightenment DM which I really really like

I disagree. An absolute beginner can install Arch, but only if he takes the time to read all the relevant wikis. Well... after reading the wiki pages he's not a beginner anymore, heh.

You can't install it as a beginner if you don't read the documentation.

My first main distro was Arch, before that I dual booted Ubuntu and Windows for about a month. And you won't learn a thing about linux with Ubuntu, maybe except perhaps what repositories are. At least that was in my case.

Hi,

the libc6 error arises when installing Steam on lubuntu?
This should only happen when you are running an old version of lubuntu or when you did not install the i386 architecture, so you should check if you installed lubuntu  from the latest version downloadable and if you did "dpkg --add-architecture i386".
It would also be interesting to see which graphics card you are using and if you should install the proprietary drivers first, because this can cause avoidable problems.

I personally prefer lubuntu because it is lightweight easy to use and since it is basically ubuntu, there is a ton of help for everybody.

kind regards,
