Development boards could be seen in the wild as early as October.

They’ve been working with businesses in Shenzhen to do production for the final device. They’re having (or had) trouble finding a manufacturer because they’re doing such small volume.

MXP i.mx8 is officially the SoM they’re using.

They’ve got the GPU working on purely open source drivers, but it’s not final and they don’t know what the performance will be.

They talked about how they can’t go 100% free software, but it’s all free on the SoM. The baseband will be connected via USB, due to the nonfree drivers. That’s the best we’ll get. It will be stable though.

Lastly and possibly most importantly: It’s certified Respects Your Freedom.

I thought they would produce the phone in USA. Are their laptops made in china too?

Dunno about the laptops.

The way she explained it is that they’d much rather have it produced in the western hemisphere, but they can’t do that on the timeframe.
