Fun fact... SONY had that technology, where two people see two different pictures on the same TV implemented in their TVs like 5 years ago? 6years ago? PS3 was still trying to catch up to 360... It's not a new technology at all... However, 5K$... Wow...
I am more surprised, that it hasn't been used more widely... I mean I know it's of limited use, but I almost forgot it existed... Is it really working properly? No bleeding one image in the other or something? From the entire review this is the thing, that got me interested the most...
Are you not able to permanently put it into Game mode (or PC mode)? I know that some (older?) Samsungs were silly and didn't tell you that you can put it in Game mode by naming the source to Game. Similar for PC.
The contest is only open to Americans. I thought I saw the last of these exclusive contests run by American companies years ago.
Furthermore, the LG Canadian site simply redirects to the US site when you click on the OLED 'see more' (marketing) button.
This doesn't have anything to do with Tek Syndicate, but it may be something @Logan may want to pass on to his rep. Being in a market that seems to be treated as an afterthought by LG is duly noted for the next time I go shopping for electronics.
Great review guys don't mind that it is sponsored. i really really like what LG is doing with OLED.
I feel OLED is the next tech if i was going to buy a new television set today i would go for OLED. At the moment i have a Samsung "UE55D8000" 55-inch tv here in the EU that's big hahaha well don't agree it's ok but i wouldn't mind having a 65inch ..
Also don't like all that smart stuff big brother please keep out of my living room..
i do like to relax with a nice netflix movie or series or watch sum science documentary so a nice big quality screen always helps..
And 5.1 sound is a must.. my older Yamaha receiver still works well so i'm happy with the spdif ..
Pleaes tell LG we need them to make straight living room tv's at least 65inch and curved OLED monitors with acpect ratio similar to my 2560x1600..
By the way can't help thinking of something ridiculous Samsung once sad on a CES interview.. Nehh you don't need OLED we can do the same with Samsung smart led !! bla, bla, bla. hahahah...
Y'all remember in one of the Teks Logan said something along the lines of "If you have a Kinect, I will not step into your house - that thing is SPYING ON US!!"? Ah, the good old days...
I knew that @Logan would make it so the fact that it's sponsored is just not an issue! Great review, I like it... despite I wont buy it.. its to pricey yet. Though really looking forward to the tec getting cheaper over the years =D
Prices here in Netherlands (EU) aren't any better.. €6000 that's around $6420 wel over 5K...
my personal limit is around 2k for that $$ it better be the best thing ever sins sliced bread.. it just dawned on me ..!! One would be paying 5K or 6K and still have big F..ing Brother watching you !!???
How much profit is going to be enough for these guys ?? Companies now a day would even give the Ferengi a run for the $$
I just wish it was uploaded in 4k instead of 1080p. I wanted to see more detail to compare and contrast where the quality was at compared to my 4k Korean monitor.
At 40" you can really see where 1080p YouTube compression is cutting corners in quality.
They're probably using the same technology as for 3d (wikipedia.org/wiki/Polarized_3D_system), except instead of opposite lenses in each eye they put opposite in each set of glasses. You could theoretically do this with any 3d display by sending two different inputs as if they were the two eyes of one and swapping one of the lenses in 2 pairs of glasses. The bleeding would be the same as with 3d stuff, except more noticeable since they're completely different images rather than one shifted a bit (which is probably why nobody did this with red-cyan). I would assume the main issue with implementing it would be the cost of 3d in the first place, and that the bleeding would have to be much lower than just for 3d. They might also swap images each frame in some displays which might cause flickering if you did this (and maybe half the frame rate vs 3d?), but that's just a guess.
