This male or female summed it up pretty well. It’s like you guys are afraid to touch this subject for some reason.

I’m not trying to play defense here, but could it be because this episode was filmed sometime last weekend, and they cut these news episodes up and air them over the course of the week? It’s possible that they were not up to date when they filmed this.

It’s also good to see companies release their own repair kits, even if they are over priced. With the common use of mobile phones, it really is about time.

The film these on saturday or sunday all at once.

This was filmed on Sunday before a lot more insanity broke, but I’d love a summary from your point of view.

Gab had started deleting old posts, sometimes years old, including posts by the founder. This is a huge redflag for me having experienced attempted retconning – why would contemporary events necessitate erasing the past?

That doesn’t seem innocent to me, but I agree a lot more details have emerged the last few days.

Still, summarise your thoughts for us please? Rsther than just this.

Modern technology enables effective retconning for the masses. This is insanely dangerous and only one step removed from the ministry of truth. Admit a mistake in thinking and move on. Anything else is gaslighting.

Everything’s a conspiracy.

It was closed, eventually.

I appreciate the reply, I was unaware of recording dates and admit fault. As was pointed out above an entire thread was devoted and was closed due to constant sidetracking.

If you would like further summary that can be provided.

I don’t think in principle we disagree, but advocating for gab is not the particular free speech hill I would die on. I personally found many, many posts advocating violence when I searched for things like kill, shoot, etc. On Gab. This type of ‘free speech’ is neither protected, nor productive.

Martin Luther and the 95 theses was a spark of intelligence that woke everyone up “hey, yeah, wait a minute? That’s right!” I imagine he might face the de-platforming issues in the context of today.

Advocating violent social Change is not something I can get behind. If gab was a bastion of intellectual debate and Martin Luther types looking for positive change then I would be wigging out.

Based on what I saw it was not a good place. But that was a lens of just a few hours of poking at it last week.

It’s not about choosing a hill to die on. It’s about noticing a blatant and terrifying trend. First it was daily stormer, then it was Alex Jones. Now it’s Gab. And another website is having the same problem today that is a Christian pro-choice website.

It’s the same trend as government spying. They use the excuse of child porn and terrorism to slowly gain more and more control and strip rights from the public.

Except those are somewhat believable. We’re at the point now of just political clubbing and banning of wrong think.

So, I saw this in the other thread come up, and I’m seeing it now. I’ve never heard of it. Looking it up… Dude…

You’re not picking the best advocates of free speech.

I’m so split on this issue. Of course censoring a site like this is blatantly wrong, and will be used as a precedence for way worse stuff. It’s quite obvious.

But freedom of speech should end when it affects the rights or health of other people. And I don’t know if self-regulation can work here, in this example specifically, or for social media platforms in general.

Either way, I could’ve seen this comming a mile away if I were the owner of such a site. Why, WHY, would you host your DNS with godaddy?
And why do they need those hipstery-domains? Wouldn’t a domain from a country with less regulation in that regard be better? I mean, if the piracy-sites can keep their domains for years if they select the right one, surely a social-media platform could. They don’t even need to hide from the Media Mafia…

Also, I’m not really that deep into this topic, please correct me if I said something wrong.

No, I thought I had it twisted to. Your God given rights extend only as far as they don’t interfere with the God given rights of others.

Calling for the eradication of a race, creed, or religion seems pretty damn infringing to me.

Alex Jones is a nutjob con artist but I never saw any example of him calling for murder or eradication of anyone.

This is the problem. They make it to where if you try to defend from infringement you get painted as defending child rapists or murderers. Therefore invalidating any opinion you can have.

Alex Jones was taken down for defamation and libel, I believe.

I didn’t follow it, though. Just a guess.

EDIT

Twitter on Tuesday suspended the account of the far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones for a week after he tweeted a link to a video calling for supporters to get their “battle rifles” ready against media and others, in a violation of the company’s rules against inciting violence.

It sounds like after that he made an alt account and started spamming woe is me.

People like Rush Limbaugh have been saying have your guns ready for the attack and defense of the constitution for decades. Doesn’t matter if you agree or not nothing wrong with saying something like that.

Which brings to light a larger issue at hand, I think. Regardless, whether it be the context versus the specifics of Limbaugh and Jones or the mainstream protections, the individual and organization didn’t do much to help their case…

Look man, I get it. Believe me. I used to listen to AJ like 10 years ago. I met him down in Austin a while back. I think we’re spiraling out again, because we’re grasping at specifics while avoiding the actual topic.

Gab was terminated from hosting due to several factors. Call it unfair, unreasonable, etc. it happened, you have to move on. I’d rather them have their space to plan and plot, but the world isn’t like me. This isn’t a Millennial versus Baby Boomer, Liberal versus Conservative, R versus D, old versus young – There are people on all sides of all over the spectrum that support this. That dude scared the crap out of people. The language associated with 6% or 5% of that site scares the crap out of people. 5% of 800,000 is still 40,000 people, well organized, some of them well educated, and highly motivated. Again, I’m not saying pull their connections and lock them up, I’m just painting a picture with different strokes.

You can say, ‘ready your guns’ without having it sound like intensifying violence.

For example, “ready your arms, to defend yourself” is a lot better than, “grab your rifles”

I think the problem is not with the people who are that blatant with their claims. You can identify those and ignore them, report them, or whatever.

The problem is with people that have a definitive “subtext” to them, as in you know what they are trying to convey, but on the outside they present themselfs differently.
You can’t report them or anything, but their message is still dangerous.
IMHO this is the problem with the situation here, and the reason for their trouble. If they were just blatantly racist etc., they could’ve been legally removed. The DNS providers are private companys though, and they can decide, and also will decide on not just what they’re saying, but also the subtext, because that is still dangerous to them(In the sense that they might loose profits due to bad pr).

I just can’t imagine a set of static rules(“laws”) that could identify such behavior, and prevent it.

Also I noticed that @AnotherDev was saying some of that above, I guess I’m typing to much and to slow :stuck_out_tongue:

Ive said all I can think of to say on this so far. But I would strobgly encourage everyone to read this statement from another website having a similar problem and try to justify this.

P.S. this will not stop with the banning of “fringe” groups. Time has already shown that their acceptable opinions and ban worthy offenses are becoming much much narrower.
