There’s likely similar issues with places like cyberpower/ibuypower when it comes to Threadripper/X299 not TR4 coolers, limited cooling, low end PSUs on those systems, ect, ect.
I would have never guessed “web design”, but I was thinking that it had something to do with the cooling. Haha, so basically a mistake in Dell’s website led you to buy this T640 without the middle airflow/ cooling bar thing?
At least this video will be helpful for anyone that made the same purchasing mistake on Dell’s website.
From the dealings I have seen with Cisco regarding UCS C-series servers (usually through CDW)… they have occasionally forgotten to include something but then they would 1 day ship it.
Oh man, at that ending! You had to send the whole server back too?
Was it at least free shipping and free part?
At least you know the replacement server has not been heat damaged…
You mean the same server with a fan?
I guess a robot assembled it, say Bender Rodriguez. Didn’t question what was on the spec sheet for that job.
Interesting… not a fan of Dell for the most part.
Always nice to see other people run into strange stuff.
Shouldn’t this video be in the L1 Enterprise channel?
“Dell” “T640” “T640” “T640” overheats -pdf -manual -downloads -pinterest
Yeah, agree that you cant find that
I like that redundant SD card module. Is there a platform-agnostic version that I can pick up somewhere?
So because of a bug in the ordering system, you ordered an impossible configuration, and then they won’t ship you the fix so YOU HAVE TO SHIP THE ENTIRE THING BACK?!?
This is when you have to just take a piece of metal and just MacGyver the solution. A bar with 4 Delta fans and some wiring would have worked if this wasn’t a client order… Alas, this is a client order so you likely weren’t able to do that. Thank goodness you were the intermediary to stress test it before it headed to your client.
For the nay sayers that point out “The part was on the couch the whole time, you rigged this!” No, they shot the sequence showing that they had to do those things just to get that single part, and it was better to film it all in one go when they’ve already encountered the issue. Can I get @wendell to confirm that?
That is normal with Dell and other companies like that.
only the part after I changed shirts was shot last. It was shot the day the replacement server arrived (I ordered a second server for $$$$$$ to save time. The other one was mailed back the same day, still waiting on a refund …)
What a customer service nightmare. Sorry you all had to wait on the new server. Dell…I don’t even know what to say.
