I currently have a OnePlus 3 which I love. It's a great phone for me, especially for the money. However, I do a lot of my work while on the go these days, and I absolutely hate touch-typing for anything longer than a text. So what are your guys thoughts on the new-ish Blackberry KEYone, along with the more aged PRIV and Passport? Other than that, are there any recommended accessories (thinking small Bluetooth keyboard case type thing) that people have had good experience with? Why do you guys think the slider keyboard (like on the PRIV) died off? Do people really like touch keyboards?
I think that they're for certain types of people.
There will always be people who will want to use a physical keyboard, simply because they may prefer the tactile nature of such a thing, but for many, it isn't an issue.
Virtual keyboards also are much less secure... (Yes, I know physical keyboards can be too, but they usually aren't third party.)
2006 called...
nonsmartass answer, otg adaptor and a keyboard when you're at home.
For me it's immensely easier to type on a physical keyboard than a smartphone touch board without looking.
I could write out pages on a blackberry without ever looking. With a touchscreen I can barely get a few words and autocorrect is still a failing pile of garbage.
If I could find a good used blackberry like i had in 07 I'd be happy.
Same! I remember having a Samsung phone that ran Windows mobile OS, and, though the OS was garbage, the typing was prime. I crave a good keyboard in my phone or some kind of case that has a physical keyboard.
Fair play, but when I'm at home I just use my computer for emails and such.
If you have bluetooth on your PC you might try the Logitech K380 that can pair and switch to multiple device pretty quicly. Or you can try Vysor that uses ADB to get the phone screen to your PC and makes easy to answer text without getting hands fatigue.
I have lots of trouble typing on a glass keyboard, but I don't want an additional device. I wish they would bring slider keyboards back, if they could make a decent one. The one on my first Android, a Samsung Moment, wasn't very good because it was too flat. But a slider goes against the stupid trend of being as thin as possible at the expense of battery life.
I really liked the keyboard on my Palm Treo. The keys were triangular bumps, which looked odd but worked well in practice. One could type easily because, like braille, one could feel exactly when your finger was on the button. I wouldn't mind having an extra tall phone to accommodate a physical keyboard at the bottom. And a bigger battery.
But that ain't never gonna happen because glass keyboards are cheaper.
That's why right now I'm thinking about the Blackberry KEYone! It looks like a phone with a slightly smaller screen (4:3 aspect ratio I think, like 1640X1080?) but it looks great to me.
I sent a 'Please make this' tweet to Samsung.
And they replied with this.
It is a normal protective case and the keyboard add-on can be stored on the back or used on the front. The bottom row of the screen automatically slides up when you clip on the keyboard. It looks pretty good for $60, but I don't have a Samsung S8 phone ATM.
Oh damn! That's neat. So the phone gets touches through the keyboard cover thing but interprets them as keystrokes, eh?
It's little things like this that separate these phones. Maybe an S8 with that case as my work phone would be nice.
I am not into smart phones and don't know the latest things but would it not be a smart idea for them to have a stylus pen for phones? Do they have them already? Stylus pen is one way one could easily tap the letters on the screen for texting.
I mean, they had the Samsung note phones, but a stylus pen is awfully slow compared to one's thumbs. And errors are still super common. With a tactile keyboard, my accuracy in typing goes up dramatically. With a touch keyboard it's an absolute mess.
