Hey, I’m looking for a workstation for university with a budget of around £1,500, so I’ve been looking mostly at used hardware.
I’d mainly use it for AAA gaming, streaming, VMs and running local AI models like Qwen 27B.
I found a Lenovo P520 with a Xeon W-2245 and 64GB RAM for under £400, and I’m considering upgrading it to a Xeon W-2265.
I already own 2x RTX 5060 Ti 16GB GPUs, so I’d like to run both in the system if possible.
I’ve also been looking at older platforms like X299 and LGA3647. Are they still worth considering in 2026?
Power consumption isn’t really an issue for me as electricity is included with my accommodation.
Would the P520/W-2265 be a good choice for what I’m trying to do, especially with two GPUs? Or is there something else I should consider for around £1,500?
I’m mainly looking for the best performance and flexibility I can get for the money.
