I had almost finalised Legion 7i 14th gen with i9-14900 HX (Part Number: 83FD000XIN) until I came upon the intel chip instability issue.
Saw Wendell & Gamers Nexus videos on yt regarding the same and decided to instead go with Legion Pro 5 gen 8 with AMD R9 7945HX (82WM00FFIN). This AMD version of laptop is a bit downgrade from 7i in terms of screen, thunderbolt port etc.
So what do you think between 14900 HX vs 7945HX in terms of instability & chip degradation?
from the reports the chip degradation is only on the desktop intel chips. The laptop chips would have different voltage regulation (because power efficiency is more important).
Isn’t it a problem on all intel processors operating over 5.0 GHz? Laptops with i7 & i9 processors are running above 1.5V & high temperatures (around 100C).
If I am not mistaken (correct me if wrong) the desktop series K, KS & KF are similar to the laptop HX series chips slightly under powered.
Also, degradation takes time and so the i7s & i9s in laptops can take sometime to show up as mobo failures.
