Leaving teaching... Looking to get into the tech industry

Logan and crew or anyone else, I was just wondering if you could help give me a bit of guidance since I feel a bit lost. I want to change careers from teaching to something in the tech field. Everyone keeps asking me what it is that I want to do, and I'm not exactly sure. But honestly, if I could do something like JJ from ASUS or Ed from Sapphire, I think that would be pretty cool. But anyways, here's my situation:

So last year was the first time I had my own class and hated it. I Switched from teaching unmotivated high schoolers wood shop and multimedia back to what I grew up thinking I wanted to teach, history. My student teaching experience of it at the high school level was also horrible, but I thought having my own class at the middle school level would change my mind. I still can't stand it. Teaching has since killed one of my former passions, mentoring a high school robotics team (associated with FIRST Robotics). I've been trying to figure out what I could change to, but everything I look at, I'm not qualified for (even low end positions).

So a little background:

BA in History with CA teaching credentials in Social Studies and Industrial Arts and Technology

Love for working with my hands

Love for technology (specifically computer hardware and accessories and I have been building my own computers and friends for over 10 years)

I'm still in my 20's

Hell, I've even considered going to butler school just to get away from teaching.

You'd be surprised how far a college degree, even in an unrelated field, will get you in a lot of companies.  Though, if you want to do something tech related certs (A+, CCNA, etc.) would be a good way to show you have some tech related knowledge in addition to your general education.

As far as doing something similar to JJ, your best bet would probably be to just find some sort of entry level (maybe in the QA department or something similar) position at one of the vendors, and work your way up.  If you show yourself to be knowledgeable, have good communication skills and are good with people, you may be able to work your way into a similar position.

Or at least that's my 2 cents.

Thanks man. I appreciate it. Been a rough day.
