  6. What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? Programming, photo editing(photoshop and lightroom) and running 2-4 VMs

  7. Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? Mostly desk and around the house, weight isnt an issue

  8. Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games? No, probably not

  9. How many hours of battery life do you need? 5+ would be great, but not a deal breaker

  10. Would you prefer to see the notebooks you’re considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? Buying online us ok

  11. What OS do you prefer? Windows (Windows 7 / 8), Mac OS, Linux, Chrome OS, etc.

- worried about ssd performance
- i can buy a new 512gb samsung 970 pro for the price to upgrade 256 to 512 ssd on through dell
-thin laptop w 6c/12t processor for VMs

Lenovo Yoga 920 w/ 4k screen (8550u 4k, 1tb ssd ~1600 + tax)
- Worried about the 360 hinge wearing out and poor wifi performance
- worried about 8550u powerful enough running a few VMs

Dell has been great since they went back to being a private company. 2006 was when they were public.

I would suggest to take a look into SAGER/CLEVO, a good place that has a ton of options XoticPC.

Now you seem to be more interested on a more powerful cpu, and even though you dont game nor plan to, in case you want a 8 core, check ASUS ROG STRIX GL702ZC

People are programming and doing photo editing on mac air 13. Pretty sure you can use anything with a half decent screen.
