Laptop login and heat issues?

Hey, now let's talk about laptops.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L755-167 that I've had for 1.5 years. It has worked just fine until kinda recently. I tried logging into my profile when a message showed up saying ''The user profile service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded''

I fixed the issue by restoring windows to a previous date, I had installed a new version of java the previous day so luckily nothing was lost when I restored it. This issue happened again, fixed it with the restoring again. After that it hasn't happened again. Now I'm wondering, why did it happen and what can I do to prevent it from happening again? If it happens again and I dont have a backup that windows made recently I could potentially loose alot of work.

I've also had the issue with lag when gaming. I play games like Team fortress 2, need for speed and minecraft.

I used to play TF2 on 720p because I lagged alot, frames dropped to as low as 10 FPS really often. Then I turned off multithreaded rendering.

Suddenly I never ever got lag spikes. Now I can play at 1080p without any issues at all. Could it have been because of my CPU throttling when I had multithreaded on? I know my CPU get's easely to 90ish degrees now when gaming. I do have a cooling pad.

Laptops sucks -.-

Now, the user service sometimes fails, (Some pirated windows copies, fail the first time you try to log in, and then work fine), something failed to start, so

Most likely cause of your logon faliure, was that the Java update service couldn't start. Java is usually on the priority list when you start your computer (Java update service), and that simply crashed. No biggie,

As for you laptop gaming, i had one with similar specs, but a Dell model. First thing, you need to check, is what GPU is your game running with, you can right click on the program, and choose what GPU you would like to use, the Intel 3000 series, is on by default and its horrible, the GeForce 525m performs a lot better, and you can play some decent games on it, however, do keep in mind that it is still a mobile solution and its designed mostly to run on lower resolutions, if you pump it up to 1080p,it will have issues.

Turning of multithreading can help, because the application is given free roam on the second core, while the first one is under load from Windows and everything you are running on the background.

Laptops do suck, when i comes to latest games on the market. Considering its about 2000$ to get a highend laptop, its still in the Medium to High, compared to desktop systems.

(there are budget builds aswell like: http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/lenovo-ideapad-y510p.asp )

Ah yes and finally backup,

Windows has a built in backup system, so your folders (can be customized) will be backed up, you can do it to a drive, NAS, etc. There are a lot of tools out there, i usually keep all documents in cloud, but even if you OS dies on you, the files can still be recovered.

Installing windows and some software takes roughly 1-3 hours. So there is really no need to make a clone image of your entire drive. Just organize your documents (Important stuff) and upload, or copy them to another drive.

you've had it for a 1.5 years, it needs the heatsink cleaned and I'm not talking spray the vents with compressed air I mean disassemble your laptop and clean out the heatsink and reapply non crap paste like MX-4

+1

Forgot about that :)

I have removed the backpanel a few times but I haven't actually really cleaned it. I will see what I can do. I don't know what temps it had when I first got it, but we'll hopefully see a difference.

Current temps:

Idle: ~59-60

Load: It kept throttling but the max I saw was ~99-100

Will post again with temps after the cleanout.

my girlfriends laptop had the same user account login fail problem 2 times last week. not sure the cause, but i reinstalled windows and all is well now. i did disable java deployment toolkit addon and havent had the problem since. also took care of the server lag and 100% processor useage at all times. i think (just guessing here) that her java got infected or hacked.

Java 7 had some security issues. I don't know if it's fixed or not, should hopefully be.

Anyway, I wasn't able to open up my laptop as much as I wanted, but I was able to remove some dust and got my temps down by 5-10 degrees on idle. The load temp is however still up to 90-100.

java development toolkit is still not fixed, and even says has a known security vulnerability. just disable it before it becomes a problem for you again. i had the same trouble as you till i turned java development toolkit off. cant uninstall it, but working on that next lol.
