I am just wondering why there is such a lack of overclocking software for linux. I feel like that is something that I need if I want to use linux full time.
Do all your overclocking in the bios. You can OC your cpu and ram in your motherboard bios. For your graphics card just find a stable overclock and voltage then edit your stock vbios and reflash it with the new overclock and fan profiles. Then there is no software to worry about.
True, but I am using a fairly locked down hp pc...
Scrap the board for an overclock able one if you can save enough.
BIOS overclocking is the only true way to do it, never rely on these software things, you never learn, and one more point of failure.
Just do it all manually
I don't recommend overclocking an OEM board anyway... They are as cheap as possible to reduce costs. They don't intend that you overclock.
