Note: since this is my first post it appears as though I cannot include any links in it. If you need links to any of the keyboards, or the exact KVM I purchased, I will include them in the replies.
After some research (mostly the well put-together videos by Wendell), I purchased a L1T 1.4 Display Port KVM Switch - Dual Monitor - Two Computer, and have been very happy with it.
I am, however experiencing an issue with the HID ports. When connecting any of my keyboards to them, they are not recognized (or even powered in some cases). This is also happening with the wireless adapter for my Logitech MX Master 2S Mouse.
I have tried the following keyboards using multiple cables and in each of the four HID ports:
- Drop CTRL Mechanical Keyboard
- Coseyfannitutti Dicipline V2
- WASD Code Mechanical Keyboard
- Kyria Rev2
- Mechwild Mercutio
They are all recognized perfectly when plugged into a non-HID port.
I mentioned “powered in some cases” earlier as on the Drop Ctrl keyboard, the LEDs are not lighting up when plugged into the HID ports, which leads me to believe there may be a power issue?
I am also seeing something similarly with the WASD Code keyboard. It has simple backlit white LEDs which are illuminating for a split second when plugged into a HID port, and then powering off.
That said the Kyria does have LEDs and is powered sufficiently (the OLED Displays are also showing up just fine) but the keyboard is not recognized on the HID ports.
The Mercutio also has an OLED display, which powers on and displays properly, but is still not recognized.
(I feel at this point I need to point out I’m not plugging in all these keyboards at once, but rather one at a time)
This is not a dealbreaker situation for me (as plugging my mouse and keyboard into the non-hid ports has been working just fine), but I’d really like to have the keyboard(s) work with the HID port as I’d like to use the magic Scroll Lock + <Number> PC Switcher key combination when my KVM becomes (slightly) more inaccessible.
While it would be nice to have the Mouse in the HID port, I’m mostly concerned with the keyboard(s) working for that magic keyboard combo.
Am I misunderstanding the nature/purpose of the HID ports or is there something else happening? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
