S10 manual swap update:
Took it out for it’s first drive as a manual and… it doesn’t like it (as to be expected).
Not sure what’s up with the random O2 sensor code. They’re all plugged in.
Drives nice, but it’s definitely in a limp mode of some sort. Full power until 3k RPM, so it easily drove 55, but I definitely need to do something about the ECU.
Oh, and I should see about keeping the miles for the S10 (it’s currently displaying the Blazer’s miles).
Would be easiest to swap to an ECU from a manual model. Second option would be to have that one flashed.
I wanted to use the ECU from my parts car (Blazer) especially since I had the immobilizer disabled, but it’s completely different.
I’m going to see what options I have around here to get it reflashed. I assume since it’s pretty easy on GMs I should have a few. We shall see.
I will get it running good, even if (for some reason) I have to swap out the entire wiring harness with the Blazer’s.
Might have to modify the harness but an entire swap shouldn’t be necessary. Depends how much has to change but I would think swapping the whole damn thing might be excessive.
Haha, yeah I’d agree with “excessive”. I don’t actually plan on having to swap the harness. It was more for showing my determination. Guess I should have used the small text tag or something.
Reminded me of this backwards truck.
There’s a video, but it’s on FB, so yeah… click if you don’t mind giving up all your data for all eternity.

There’s a NAPA autoparts store here that can flash OEM computers. Check with them if they’re around. Not all of them can do it.
Oh, that would be amazing. I have a few buddies that work there. Maybe I can win some sort of life lottery, so I can get that buddy hookup.
I liked being asked how fast my s10 went. The answer was the speedometer stops at 100.
Haven’t started the manual swap yet, still waiting to hear back from the TDI guru guy. He’s super busy, as his day job is working on these cars and his side work is also working on these cars. Dude’s a savant with TDI’s, and everyone wants him to do work on stuff. He was telling me a funny story about a rich college kid who kept destroying his (heavily modified) TDI and needing it fixed on his dad’s dime.
I’ve been dreaming about tunes. I have had the Eco Tune for a couple years now. I think I’d like Stage 2 or 3 eventually. I’m not sure about upgrading the turbo yet, as I’ve heard the lag is a little more than the slightly smaller stock turbo. In any case I think my current turbo needs to be cleaned and checked out, as I was having overboost codes later this winter and through spring. I removed the turbo actuator and manually moved the vane lever and it felt icky.
@TeckMonster That manual swap looks really cool. Was the auto bad, or just wanted the manual? I changed out the 700R4 in my 1990 Silverado with another one, but I wish I’d gone with a manual in that too. Just didn’t know what to use, and the replacement junkyard 700R4 was cheap. I did not like doing it, though. Found out I don’t like doing major auto repair and would rather have someone with more experience do it. Engines and transmissions are a bit much for my auto repair skills.
Thanks! The auto was actually really good, but I’m a hardcore manual fan (GM’s older trans sap lots of power too), so I put manuals in every auto I’ve had (technically the Leaf isn’t an auto so I can say that).
Should have for sure. My father had an 89 with a manual, and it was so much fun. You could dump the clutch in 2nd and roast the tires for about 2 neighborhood properties (sorry, I’m not good with distance) without touching the brake.
I’m not a fan of doing mundane repairs, but if it’s something that would procure people’s interests, then I find it quite fun… I especially like doing projects people tell me can’t be done like my Volvo. I was told a few times “that engine swap can’t be done”, but I did, and it was/is great (never ended up telling them I got it though).
a kindred spirit…

So often I see someone on an automotive forum come up with an interesting idea for something to do to their car only to be shot down by a load of naysayers going “you can’t/shouldn’t do that because reasons”. I wish we had more people going “Cool! Never heard of this being done before but it sounds fun! lets see if we can make it work! what if we did…”
The Subaru Ascent is huge
260 hp seems a bit slim for a three-row SUV. Supposedly MPG in the mid-20s though.
Subaru just won’t let the flat 4 go mane.(which was kind of cool when all their cars were small) That car is way too big for their flat 4 platforms.
Friend of mine told me he and his buddies rerouted the washer fluid to dispense liquor below the dash when they were younger, nonsense mod (not to mention dangerous) but funny
She home. I never named this one, next to the VFR, Kyoko. Either way, the front caliper was stuck. Chain, was a mess and it looks like the people who own the garage where this was living tried pouring stuff into the oil to try and break free something that wasn’t seized. Get ready for a gross pic of sludge “oil” lolol. Hopefully that wont be too bad, but that might require a rebuild. Otherwise, they kept this super clean compared to what I was expecting. The chrome is still pretty good even.
