Why am I not getting unlimited data?

Thank you for calling, and don't worry sir, it's standard procedure, your data plan is now [puts on sunglasses] optimized! Have a nice day.

I've been a viewer for a long time, and I'm going to say something potentially controversial which is that the political views of Ryan are really ruining the show for me. I get that separating news and politics can be tricky, but it seems like Ryan uses any and every opportunity to go into some political diatribe.

All major news outlets are in the pockets of certain people in power ? Give me a break.

I watch the show because I like science and fact-based news and information, not right wing conspiracy theories.

I wonder if in the future these people who are in power and who are ignorant in terms of technology will ever be in court in like 15 years for all the terrible stuff that happened in result of them not believing in encryption.

Will it happen? Prayerfully yes.

Is there future protected by money? Probably...not...

It's true though, unless you think multinational media corporations are somehow disconnected from traditional power structures. There's a great right-wing social critic named Noam Chomsky who has written about it extensively.

On the other hand I can't get enough of it. Don't like it? Don't watch!

Oh...You must be very very young. Ryan is a smart guy and knows the reality is much uglier than it looks.
If you would pay attention you wound find out Ryan is 99% of time right on the money.

I'm glad to see SAP being mentioned for the horrible system it is. I worked for many years at a company using SAP for inventory control and the inventory was always wrong, or was never ordered to fill holes because the system "thought" there was some in stock or on the way.

This was a major cell phone carrier and the delays to projects because stuff was never available were endless and this went on for years till I decided to move on.

I read an article that firmly put the blame on SAP for Target's horrible launch in Canada and subsequent failure there. I wish I still had it because it was a very interesting story.

I'm so glad that as I arrived at this new telecom company they were jumping ship away from SAP as fast as they could run.

Nice try on attacking me personally!

Citation still needed on "news outlets are in the pockets of certain people in power". This is implying that news organizations are printing fake stories for money, and all of the journalists are in on it ? This is extremely conspiratorial. Where is the evidence ? Hey, but I guess it makes us feel better so we don't need facts.

For the first time at my job. Today I found software on one of our customer's laptop called SAP. I didn' t know what it was.

Now I know LOL. Poor guy.

Please keep on topic folks. Meaningful discourse = goooooood :D

Just the show, still love the format always very enjoyable and informative keep it up!

Ignoring the first link since it seems to be a book which I must purchase, and also does not seem to be released yet. (How did you read it, by the way ?)

The second two links you posted appear to be about the US government manipulating the news media. Project Mockingbird indeed was a dark time in US history, but it ended in the 70s. Are you saying you think something like this is still happening in some form in 2017 ?

In regards to the BBG, I had never heard of it before. I personally don't think the US has any business in starting their own journalism arm, but this seems tangential to the original argument which was "Major news outlets are in the pockets of certain people in power". I'm going to go ahead and say BBG is not who that comment was targeted at. In fact it even says "An official website of the United States government" right at the top of their website.

Wendell it is truly great that you've come out from behind the monitor (from a former site and this one) to permit us to see more of your facial expressions.. makes watching more enjoyable. Might you be able to do a chair project that would assist Ryan to do a wider variety of facial expressions as well?
Thanks to you both for keeping INFORMATIONAL HOPE alive.
Best Regards, dataReceiver

Regarding electronics at the border, it can go a little beyond just having to unlock your phone.

Hey @wendell How did this story exists and nobody was talking about it:

In short, Two programmers got drunk and started arguing over which GPU's are better AMD or Nvidia. The discussion ended with one of them using a knife and killing his friend ( the two hits on his head killed him instantly, then he was stabbed 11 more times ).

He tried to hide the body by wrapping it in cellophane and dragging it from 2nd floor to his car and in to the abandoned place near some sort of factory, the clothes and his cellphone were dropped in a nearby river and police still hasn't found it yet. Later went to burn the corpse in order to hide the evidence.

And in the end he tried to act as a caring friend to the public and wanted to help in finding his friend, proceeded to download survival documentaries, cooking recipes and a picture of an actor Aleksandr Demyanenko. Police found out 3 days later and arrested him.

I tried to use google translate to piece out some of the elements, but I was surprised that no tech news channel mentioned this incident until recently. I just found it out by accident and it seems it was from 2016, but the sentence was carried out few days ago.

All that for only nine and a half years in prison, quite a bizarre story.

Here's the source that I used to piece out the story ( it's in russian )

Sorry if this news is in the wrong place, but I wanted to let you know.

At the risk of violating this forum's guidelines on political commentary, I'll try to limit my comments.

If you think that the current media war against the president of the US, to cite an obvious example, has nothing to do with the personal politics of the reporters and of the news organizations for which they work, then you have led a very sheltered life, indeed.

Therefore, whenever one discusses the news, one must always take into consideration what the political leanings and motivations are of the person who is doing the reporting, lest you be intentionally misled, These days, that's getting increasingly easy, since seemingly > 90% of the reporters foster left of center beliefs and, sadly, many of them are actively pushing their left wing viewpoint by way of their reporting. While they may maintain that they are neutral, their narrative is frequently firmly left of center.

You may ask, "Why are there so many left wing reporters?" That is because many of the news organizations, themselves, are left leaning and they hire like-minded staff. So, to your point; if I am a leftist that owns/ runs/ controls a news agency, do I need to instruct my reporters how to report on the news of the day? Not if I hire like-minded reporters, who view the world through the same filter that I do. Sadly this is not a uniquely left wing phenomena, but it is overwhelmingly a left wing phenomena.

The bottom line is that there is a conspiracy and it isn't a theory. Of course if you are a Maoist, Leninist, Stalinist, fascist, or other miscellaneous miscreant, your only complaint would be that the reporting is not extreme enough. Reporters, just like politicians have an agenda. Educate yourself and learn to recognize it. The fact that Ryan questions the reporting shows that he is an educated and thoughtful person, who is thinking for himself and he refuses to be led around like a lemming.

Regardless I think most folks would agree that at the least it is a good idea to be critical of what you hear from any news outlet. Does anyone know the full extent (or lack thereof) of corruption or corporate collusion involved in the global news mechanism? Likely not. Is it healthy to be skeptical of news sources? Yes.

Reminder of how to discuss things on the internet:

Rule of thumb: Write your post and then re-read it. If there's anything like these, remove them. There's a way to achieve meaningful discourse without making assumptions about folks you are debating with.
