L1 USB C combiner

I recently upgraded to a powercolor 7900 XTX Hellhound, but it doesn’t have USB C displayport alt mode. I can’t find any documentation online of which displayport has dp alt mode.

Would this work with my existing bidirectional USB C cable (it worked with my USB C switch and RTX 2070)

My monitor is a Dell U4320Q (4K 60 HZ). Here’s how I would connect it
Desktop displayport + USB - > l1 USB C combiner - > 10ft bidirectional USB C cable → USB C switch - > USB C input of Dell U4320Q

I have my keyboard, mouse, and audio interface connected to the monitor’s USB C inputs. I need to send video to the display and inputs to the desktop.

Is there any bidirectional dp - > USB C adapters?

It just depends on if the USBC cable you already have is both display & data capable. The USBC combiner does come with a USBC cable though, so you will have something if your existing cable is not compatible.

We usually use Moshi cables at the office because they’re the bomb for USB-C → DP, and I see on their website that the cables we usually use are bi-directional compatible:

“Connect your DisplayPort computer to a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) monitor. (Bi-directional support*)*For bi-directional support, please check with the monitor manufacturer to ensure the monitor accepts a DisplayPort signal over USB-C (UFP_D pin assignment E).”

Gotcha will test both

Makes sense. It’s pretty hard to find long 10ft cables (I guess due to length causing integrity issues, so I’m thinking of looking for a bidirectional dp - > usb c adapter so that I can use my existing long usb c cable.

Does the 7900xtx hellhound’s DP 2.1 support alt mode on all ports? How would I find the info? Searching 7900xtx hellhound displayport alt/mode doesn’t yield any relevant results.

Heck even the product page doesn’t say

Standard Display Connectors
1 x HDMI 2.1,3 x DisplayPort 2.1 (only 2x simultaneous DP2.1 connections can be supported)

The Combiner is for PCs that do not support DP ALT mode. DP ALT mode is just a USBC port that can send out a DP signal. So the moshi cable I linked, for instance, is supposed to be plugged into a USBC port that supports DP ALT mode → into DP port on KVM

Gotcha
Searching powercolor 7900xtx hellhound dp alt mode found the answer I was looking for.

been testin it, no thunderbolt/ usb4 port just standard Gen 2 / Display alt type C port fellas.

Guess I’ll pick up a combiner.

There isn’t a USBC port on this GPU right? Then it’s not DP ALT by nature?

Is there still any scratch and dent 2 PC USB C kvms?

Hm lemme check. Do you want a 2 pc 1 monitor? Also, do you want the latest version (v3)? or a discount v2?

The difference is the v2s come with a 120w power brick and the v3s have a 135w power brick. So v3 has better PD charging capabilities.

Yes

At full tilt, my laptop will use over the 120W. If it exceeds the KVM’s power, will the kvm pause charging to the battery?

It will get either really slow charging, or be not enough and it will slowly loose power. Food for thought, you could always add a dock in the mix
