L1 KVM + Keyboard Hub + Yubikey

Hello world!

I have a Level 1 2-PC DP1.4 KVM Switch, a Das Keyboard 4C TKL, and Yubikey 5 Nano.

I work from home, and I use the KVM to switch my setup between my work laptop and personal PC.

Work is requiring me to setup a Yubikey for 2FA into the internal Github.

I have a disability that prevents me from doing lots of things. I would not be able to work without the KVM switch and its keyboard shortcuts to switch, as I cannot reach the button on the switch itself.

The keyboard has two USB 2 connectors. I plugged in my new Yubikey into my keyboard, but it does not show up in lsusb (linux, obviously).

Since the KVM switch is listening on the keyboard, could that be interfering with the Yubikey?

Has any one tested this? I want to know if it’s possible before I take other troubleshooting steps.

Might look at a USB extension cable to run from the work machine to the Yubikey. This would at least reduce the variables, while still allowing use with reduced mobility. Set the extension cable up to come out towards your keyboard.

The HID port on the KVM isn’t a fully functional USB port. With your keyboard’s built-in hub it may allow other keyboards to daisy chain, but I’m not sure. You’ll need to use one of the other USB ports on the KVM or system to get proper Yubikey functionality.

A USB extension cable may be a good option for limited mobility.
