KVM switch between 2 pc

HI I’m very new and pretty hopeless with Fora jargon and rules but here is my question.
I have a low budget Digitech KVM between 2 PC and one monitor.
My new pc has no problem to be displayed with the switch, but my old pc often will not being displayed when I returned to it. Both my pc are running W10 64 bits and their display setting is way below my kvm max.
I was reading here a post from 2022 I think stating a similar problem but could not reply (not knowing how or if it was locked or could be revive so I’m here.
Now I found a kind of solution though lot of reading.
It seems that I need to have that failing pc set on ‘duplicate’ display. and this can be achieved with the window key +P.
My old pc as also annother monitor plug in the other port. (DVI) and is alway on when that pc is on. (will wake up if I move the mouse) .
This is very helpful as I can see what kind of display is on… (this monitor is usually turned off) .
So it seems that when I switch to the new PC and work with it for a while. When I need to go back to the old pc (where most of my stuff is because much of it would not run on the new one or I have not got to it.) Very often I can not get a display.
My other monitor is too far to be read properly but good enough for me to check the display setting and change it as explained above with (Window-P) Anyway my main is a 32" and this is where I want the display.
So it seems that the display setting has moved away from “Duplicate” as when I bring it back to “duplicate” my main monitor then display the pc properly.
I think I read somewhere that when it is switch to the other pc, the old one is ‘somehting’ like deactivated and need to be reactivated. I don’t quite understand this but Like the old post I read, the person stated that he had to reboot his pc to get back the display. And until I found about the "Window + P " to reset it to “Duplicate” ’ I too had to reboot my pc to get back the display. (like if the reboot re activated the display function…)
Perhaps someone knows what is really happening.
The other post replies advise that person to put KVM as a tag …I tried to put this in the “optional tags” field but it said there was not such a thing?

Instead of using the windows shortcut, try going into display settings and setting up the mirror manually. You might have better luck getting it to detect when the screen is switched back over that way.
