Do you have time to call at some point today? It might be easier to troubleshoot that way + I’ll be ready to respond instead of busy
I’m realizing I didn’t look closely enough at the amazon listing, or maybe the listing charged? That can happen sometimes. Unfortunately, the adapter listed is DisplayPort → HDMI instead of HDMI → DisplayPort, so that is probably your problem for one of the monitors. HDMI and DisplayPort is one way.
What USBC to DP cable did you get?
I’m sorry, I know you are busy and I did not mean to come across that the time you have put into assisting me is not appreciated. I was getting very frustrated and anxious with my time-line coming to a close for school and a possible return of the KVM if needed.
I seriously just unplugged my usb-c cord to see the brand on the underside of the plug and a monitor came up. Very strange! I did this five different times yesterday. With that being said, I have one monitor that apparently works through the usb-c/dp cable, but the hdmi/dp direct cable is not bringing up a second monitor as I was hoping. I can live with one, but the convenience of at least two would have been great.
Oh, the usb-c/dp cable is an Acer off Amazon. The HDMI/DP is a Target off brand I picked up one day when shopping. That may be why, lol.
You’re totally fine, no worries we will figure this out! Two should definitely work, we just need to figure out the hang up. The HDMI → DP is a special connection and it cannot be a DP → HDMI flipped around. I think the adapter is suspect probably
Ok. So I’m not using the adapter, but I’m connecting a cable at the HDMI port on the laptop to the DP port under PC2 on the KVM. With that I get one monitor (plus laptop when open). The monitor will only come on when I unplug and re-plug the usb-c end of that cable into the laptop. It works, maybe not like it should, lol. I also can’t get my camera to work through the KVM but it does work when I plug/unplug it from whichever device I need to use it for at that time. So that’s not too big of a deal. Keyboard and mouse work fine.
Which cable has a USBC end?
Did you plug the camera into one of the blue USB ports? It probably needs to be in there to work.

This is the USB-C end plug to the laptop and the other end is DP at the KVM.
As far as the camera, I apparently did not plug it into one of the blue ports. I just did and it works fine now on both desktop and laptop

Then you said:
Is this every time you switch? It sounds like a sleep settings needs disabled.
Yes. Every time if it is within a certain amount of time from when I logged into my laptop last. If say, it was the next day, I have to open my laptop, log in, and unplug the usb-c for the monitor to come up.
Yup sounds like a sleep setting. It shouldn’t have anything to do with the KVM, check all relevant settings and lmk? Including settings for your monitor(s).
Yes. Sleep was set to 10 minutes. I reset it to never as it is always plugged in on my desk anyway. Does that sound right? Sorry, but what is an lmk?
Haha lmk is “let me know”
The actual monitor itself should have settings, and it might have a power saver mode that will sleep the monitor even though windows is set to not.
Duh! I’m blonde AND old, lol. So with the monitor though, it works fine with the desktop. Would it still have a power saver mode on that doesn’t affect the desktop?
It certainly doesn’t hurt to try. Another thing you can try is reinstalling your display drivers. There must be something calling for a sleep state.
Thank you for your help. I have one monitor with my laptop. Although it is not ideal, it works. I have HDMI to DP cables, a USB-c/HDMI splitter, USB-c/HDMI adapter and a direct USB-c to DP cable. The latter of it all seems to be the only thing that works. I called HP, they walked me through some type of display installation that took an hour of downloading for nothing to change except they told me it is a problem on the KVM end or I have to buy an HP monitor for it to work right. I’ve gotten rid of 2 out of 5 total monitors and I will just have to make do. Again, I thank you for your time, but I think I have to accept defeat on this one.
? It really doesn’t seem like that should be the case. Even if the issue is KVM related we can get an RMA for you. I highly doubt it is the KVM though.
To be clear, the only issue is that you have to unplug and plug the USBC cable to get the display to show?
Lol, no. I would call nonsense on that one.
Can you list to me the model# of the monitors? I’d like to look up their manuals.
