Hey,
I currently have weird setup coming to connecting laptops to KVM.
Hardware list:
-
Green Cell adapter with HDMI, USB-C, Ethernet and 3x USB 3.0 ports
-
Delock AV adapter DisplayPort - HDMI + USB-A
-
KVM 1.4 DisplayPort - Dual Monitor - Two computer 10 gigabit
Till this day I setup my laptop like this: I connected it to KVM using DisplayPort to USB-C adapter and USB-C cable (so two cables going to laptop) without using docking station or anything.
Right now i have additional laptop on my desk, and i would love to have only one cable to reattach each time i switch output to one of them. Yeah I know, should’ve be smarter and order 4 computer option, but whou could’ve known?
So I had the Green Cell dock laying around, but it had only one USB-C port. So I figure: “I’ll just buy DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, instead of DisplayPort to USB-C one”. I could just buy dock with DisplayPort, but I pretty much brainfarted there.
What’s the problem?
You might ask, and for a good reason. Problem is, my laptop is detecting the display, setting up correct resolution (2560x1080), but there is no signal. Same thing on Windows and Mac.
If I skip the dock part, so connecting hdmi adapter to laptop, it works just fine, so adapter is ok. I imagine it’s probably too many hoops in the loop, and signal cannot be sent correctly. Am I right, and if not is there any way to receive signal to monitor with that kind of setup?
