Found a fault in the vid.....

You are supposed to drink the windex while putting the fork in the socket.

Makes it fizzy and gives new meaning to the brand Jolt Cola.

\o/ I hope this is the start of a new series.

@kreestuh when i watched this on a small screen for the first time i kinda missed it, in the intro you where talking about idiots...... then wendell showed up in the frame and you talked about nature building better idiots.......
does wendell know :grin::grin:

great content krista, drawing stuff on paper means you dont have to hang on to a idea until your on your pc
it helped me to keep an idea in focus wile traveling
thanks for the tip

Very nice video.
The microphone getting brushed by your hair introduced some noise.

Design is hard (yellow text on white background, anyone?).
UI is harder.
Then there are websites, that look like crap and are unusable to the point where websitename+TheThingYouTryToFind in Google does not yield any results.
Doing small scale publicashions (marketing) for sports clubs and small businesses I can safely say the following:
The customer does not know what he wants
The user won´t use the feedback form
The customer wants the logo to be bigger
I don´t get paid for the work I put into this

finally! You're using the matrix chair!

How long did you spend on the script on this video?

The main content was

Please tell me this is going to be a series and not filler video! This was great:grinning:

So what do y'all think about the material design thingie from Google?

this was so good to watch really cool to see i know "nothing" about UX really but i hope there are more of these

I would like to do more! I think I would like to cover visual hierarchy in a video all by itself, because it's a thing I see a lot of designers struggle with (myself included at times). And there are so many great movements in art history to draw examples from.

Also it took me an hour or so to write the script. I wish I was a little more like Wendell and could wing it, but I get too nervous in front of a camera so I need something to refer to from time to time lol.

No worries, like anything else you will be more comfortable the more you do it. Especially if you decide to keep making videos on the subject. It was a nice change on topic that doesn't get much attention and only speaking for myself love the fact of so many different avenues to explore it is refreshing and like I said before the video is great it was funny and informative just like the rest of level 1 and I think a series like this would compliment each other quite nicely. So keep up the good work and I think I can speak for the community when I say we appreciate you and what you bring to the community.:sunglasses:

I say, keep with the scripting for these kinds of videos! Especially if it only took you an hour to make the content this concise.

If you start making videos where you showcase your projects, you'll get plenty of time to wing it, and let us jump onto your train of thought. Judging by this video, it would be a great ride.

A timely topic. I'm about to design and implement my first website. It's mainly for hosting pics for my threads on various forums. I don't want to be held hostage by another photobucket fiasco.

Thanks for the perspective. I'd love to see one about use of color.

Thanks again @kreestuh for awesome content. Sorry I just got around to watching it. I was away.

This is sort of a tip that I don’t think you mentioned. I used to do physical UX industrial design for appliances. Blender knobs, oven dials, coffeemaker control panels, etc. Most of the same design principles apply to on-screen UX. As all good designers do, we would come up with many designs that had to be reviewed and approved by many people in the company. But my most important client was the end user.

I loved when we did Focus Groups. We would pay people to come in, sign a NDA and try all of our designs, while I watched them through a one way mirror. You could very quickly gauge what was intuitive and what was too complex = Next!

Maybe with UX design you can test your layout on a noob and scrutinize their initial reactions?

I actually wrote this into the first draft of the script! But I rejected it as it’s not necessarily something that you would do for a beginning project (ie: a portfolio site). I do this on the regular though, especially for larger clients who may have more custom functionality beyond the norm. The ultimate test is sending a copy of a design to my mom (lolol) and then telling her to perform x,y,z and watching to see if she hestitates anywhere.
