"Kinda" Newbee could use some help with Arch

Hi guys,

in the last few day my anger and hate on microsoft growth to the point where i formated the drive of my working machine.

Because i got a laptop with arch, i choosed to use it again for my pc and after 1,5 days of messing with xrandr and the xconfig files i bought another graphics card, that can handle 3 screens (bevore there war an amd and the integrated intel one) and everything works kinda fine.

At the moment i got a few mayor problems with my system.

  1. Because of some graphic bugs i installed the nvidia propritetary driver and deinstalled nouveau.... unfortunately now at bootup the font is insanely big and the middle screen does not get any signals (and he will be autoshutdown after 10 seconds without signal...) so i installed nouveau again, set "nouveau" as modul in the mkinitcpio.conf and rebuild the kernel. It is again like there is no nouveau.

  2. [SOLVED] when i start the pc and got into kde the keyboardlayout is english EVERY TIME and i have to go to the terminal and correct this. KDE configurations does not had any effect. I tried using fcitx witout sucess.

  3. [NEW] The Performance for games, steam and Kodi/XBMC is ridiculusly bad. Unusable.

  4. [NEW] With at leat VLC i can't play/stream files from my samba server

I hope you guys could help me our with this problems...

hi fellow german ;)
I can help you with your 2nd problem.
Go to the system settings -> "Eingabegeräte" -> "Tastatur" -> "Belegungen" -> klick bei "Belegungen einrichten" -> remove the us layout and add a german one.
That caused me troubles at the first time as well....

As far as I know the proprietary nvidia drivers are a pain, Intel has best (open source) driver support and AMD second (with newer hardware).

Since I switched to a faster SSD I've had trouble with my middle screen not getting a signal when I boot. I noticed that if I touch the cursor keys in the GRUB menu, so it pauses the countdown timer, then the middle screen works fine. I'm guessing that my screen is simply old and bad, and the cycling of getting a signal and not is just too much for it to handle.

The solution for me is using xrandr to disable that screen, then reenabling it.

As for the huge console font, have you look at this? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/nouveau#Setting_console_resolution

Well, in the Systemconfiguration screen there is only one german layout.. no US or other qwerty layout...
And the driver is kinda ok. But i deleted the nouveau one (and reinstalled it) but it is not loaded while startup before X kicks in. BTW how can i take a look at what driver is running atm?

Is it enabled??
You have to fill the box called "Belegungen einrichten"

yup, it is....

Other thing... I tried gaming: No sucess due to 100 % CPU utilisation.
Tried to run xbmc/kodi: totally laggy. Even my raspberry pi could handle this.. any thought about this and how to fix whatever is wrong?

Ok now the keyboardlayout problem is gone.. i don't know what i did, but i fixed it...
