Hey!
I'm going to be building my pc very soon and just needed some advise. I have 2 questions.
1. If it wise for me to build my pc on carpet?
2. I've heard that i should do a test boot outside of the case before i place everything inside. I was wondering how long should i wait for it to boot up and how it will turn off?
Thanks! Sorry if they are easy questions, i'm new :)
1. NO. There is a high risk for electro static damage if you build it on a carpet. Try a wooden floor or anything not made out of fabric :< Like a table!
2. It's not required to build the system outside of the case first, but it definately can save you a lot of time and headaches. You put your whole build in there, turn it on, to find out nothing works; then you have to spend even more time finding out the issue. And if the system boots up and shuts down fine, everything is good in order :)
Thanks for replying!
1. I'm going to be building on a table, but i meant can i stand on the floor? :P
2. Would the motherboard automatically turn off after an outside test boot?
PS
CosmosusMagnus is very sensitive when it comes to rude words, and doesnt think that its nice for
some people to call other people dumb (including them selves and their actions).
You owe CosmosusMagnus an apology.
1. Yes, lol, but try to keep yourself grounded to something metal. Anti static gloves, or a wrist wrap can help.
2. No, you have to use a switch (or can start the mobo with a key, or any small metal object by touching the two power on prongs on the mobo), and once you see everything works, you can just flip the switch on the PSU to turn it off, unless you have an ATX switch for bench stations like this
erm, okay...Sorry for calling myself dumb CosmosusMagnus.
o.O
Im not OFFENDED by people calling others dumb, I just think it pushes people away from the site.
ANYWAY, glad I could help ya out :)
Thanks! Ive got myself a anti-static wrist strap :) Do i just clip it to a metal object, such as my case? To start the mobo, ill use a screwdriver at short the 2 prongs. If i flip the switch when everythings on will it break anything?
I said you are very sensitive, not that you get offended. :)
Fluxanda, make sure you are conected to the lightning rod, if in some case you get struck buy that unfortunate phenomenon. :)
Just a precaution, you can never be too sure with these things...
