Any reason why it doesn't make it to the main channel ? I wouldn't have any problem with this sort of content up on the main channel and you'd probably get much more views which would help out in keeping the website servers operational.

No more hardware reviews on the main channel. Only, builds, hardware mods, how-to, etc.

@wendell

On the note of DSR being slow:

I am running a 780 superclocked on a 3570k setup. I run everything at 4k using DSR on my 1080p monitor, generally on max detail settings, and get 30-50 fps depending on the game. Now, I only run fxaa anti aliasing with contemporary AA turned off. First off 2x AA at 4k is waayyyyy too much for the card, and secondly I don't really need AA since DSR does a better job than 4x or 8x AA at 1080p in most games I have tried. Note: I used to be a frame rate junkie, but I find the crisper image at a loss of frame rate to be more appealing.

To be honest, I was wondering why no one (especially reviewers) ever mentioned DSR in the whole 970 ram fiasco. Really I think DSR is a game changer for high end cards, since it allows you to run your card at max performance all of the time, and really will require 4GB (or more)of ram for new games out now, and 6GB to be future proof.

I honestly think that DSR is the new standard for higher end cards until the market catches up replacing their monitors with ultra high resolution ones. It makes such a big difference in picture quality and minimizing aliasing.

wow, 1.5ghz

68 - 73 Degrees!?! My 290 is cooler under full load than that! And you nVidia fanbois say AMD is hot... /t

I have wanted one of these since I saw the 780ti HOF. That white shroud and PCB is really slick. A little "gamerish" maybe, it would look great on an ACX or XFX DD cooler. Just slick and white.

And 1.5ghz? That is crazy.

I could care less about hearing what kind of performance this card has on Windows with DirectX. I want to hear about what kind of performance this card has on Linux with OpenGL.

Suggest a benchmark suite or point me to standard testing procedure for linux? I am using this rig for the raid videos so doing that would be no big deal.

I always find it amusing when companies add these ridiculous monikers like "Hall of Fame" to a graphics card. Impressive specs though.

Because this sounds negative, I want to start off by saying that I thoroughly enjoy Tek Syndicate and the work all you guys do. This is not negative and I really hope that it is clear that I am trying to understand your results.

I was a little underwhelmed by the performance that you were reporting for this card - particularly considering the MSRP and the size of the cooler. I have been able to get higher clock speeds from a reference card (EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0 - 04G-P4-2981-KR) with air cooling, which was almost half the price. Is this just a matter of the "silicon lottery" and I just lucked out? You shouldn't be getting bottle-necked by your other hardware - X99, glorious DDR4, 5690X, etc... Did you OC this with the idea of it being a daily driver OC?

Granted, I don't use this OC as a daily driver, but its stable - I just don't want to prematurely age my components. I was also a little surprised by your temps, particularly with your cooler, I I get about 65 C when my card is pegged at 100% load.

I got this card as part of the Step-up program and was a little bummed that I didn't get a Classified, but the performance that this STOCK card without factory overclock has makes me never want to buy a binned GPU again - what I took from this review is that there is a lot of marketing going into cards and the performance is taking a hit. BUT I could just be very lucky.

I should have made clearer in the video -- the only overclocking done was to check the DX12 benchmarks. On the 960 there are two compute cors. On the 980 there are 4. It "looked like" increasing the clock 33% on the 960 resulted in a 57% ("66% ish") performance bump. Stands to reason maybe the 980 would enjoy a 4x bump.

The bench numbers are the "out of the box" numbers except for the DX12 stuff where we pushed the clocks a little bit to see if it would result in the same 2x or 4x performance bump, but that didn't seem to be the case.

We should probably do "moar" overclocking stuff with it. I'm not sure what the actual upper limit might be with this card. Didn't touch the voltage at all for this, either. Plan to also do OpenGL tests.

Have you tried Phoronix test suite?
