Hey guys, my house is really dusty and my monitors get really dirty really quickly. Everyone says take a dust cloth to it but those things never get the stuff that is really caked on. It feels like something slightly damp would do the trick but I'm not sure what to use. Have any of you ever cleaned a monitor with something wet? If so how do you go about it?
Sometimes you can find an LCD TV cleaning kit at a 99 cent store. There are DIY cleaning solution formula's on the web that you can use. In general, you can use a tiny bit of tap water, if you like, on a micro-fiber cloth as long as it does not drip down onto the bezel and seep into the monitor.
Usually, I will simply take a paper towel, run a little water on it, fold it, compress it between the palms of my hands VERY hard so that the towel only has enough water to be damp. Then, I can scrub the LCD while it is off as much as I like, just dont push so hard to the point that it cracks the LCD.
Typically the DIY solutions would involve taking mostly distilled water, a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol, and an even smaller quantity of dish soap, if the grime is really on there. (distilled water, with no minerals added, does not conduct electricity).
