Kaby Lake: i7-7700k, i5-7600k, i3-7350k and Z270 Everything You Need To Know | Level One Techs

This kicks off our Kaby Lake coverage. This brain dump is for enthusiasts that have a little experience or that have been reading about "Kaby Lake" chips and thinking about Z270.

What's the back story? We've got a whole 18 months with these boards, too! This won't be the last time you see them. We've already got projects lined up for many of these boards. Stay tuned!

What's all this about USB3.0, USB3.1, USB3.1 gen2?

I see a GNU/Linux test

But why no Windows 7 test? It's still the best version of windows since xp

Meh. Unless Zen amazes me I see no point in upgrading from Devil's Canyon.

Is it possible to compare how the Skylake chips work in these boards compared to the Kaby Lake chips? Or is it set up where Z270 is only for Kaby Lake even though the socket is the same.

If I have a 6500 i5 sitting around with no board for it atm should I pick up one of these new boards over the prior generation boards?

All I'd really need is 1 m.2 in mini itx

whatevers on sale. if not a k part you could get one of the non-z series chipsets and save a few bucks

Sounds good. Yeah non k.

We use a b150 mb on our builds that is wonderful from gigabyte. Check it out.

Will Win 7 run on these chips and boards out of the box?

It is an ATX board, but they have one in each configuration. They are solid and GSM which is nice. Check out the MyDigitalSSD series of M.2. They aren't the fastest but they are on par with SSD pricing for the same size.

Don't think Kaby Lake works with Win7

yeah MS says it doesnt work but it probably works to some degree just no advanced power management or advanced platform stuff

It will work, but it will be a pain in the ass to get working.
Its basicly the same procedure as on Skylake.

Indeed, the slogan in the entire industry seems to be "make their lives so miserable that they have no choice but to update to the latest hardware and software every 2 years".
This level of planned obsolescence is just appalling.

Meanwhile my 5+ year old Sandy Bridge is happily chugging along.

Loved all the videos posted today.

I wonder if we could watch them all and then guess the order they were shot in based solely on Wendell's reactions, expressions, and energy level.

I stand corrected !

I got the joke, I am even european, thank Mike Myers. Good round up. This craic with USB names is going to be problematic for consumers.
