Just Got My First Mechanical Keyboard!

So last week i purchased the Mionix Zibal 60 keyboard through amazon and i just got it in the mail today!!!!  I'm so happy! It's like experiencing a computer in a whole new way.

I came from a Logitech Illuminated membrane keyboard.  For a membrane keyboard, i was quite happy with it and never really had the issues that a general membrane keyboard gets.  The main reason why was because it's a low profile keyboard with a heavier button press.  This gave a similar feel to somewhere in between a Cherry MX Brown and Black.  Originally i wanted to get a Cherry MX Brown, but i'm not too picky so i was willing to go black since i've had a great experience with Mionix products, i've always enjoyed their minimalist and ergonomic feel with their mice and their mouse pads are very well built.

Now if you guys aren't aware, the Mionix Zibal 60 uses Cherry MX Black key switches.  A LOT of people advised me not to go for a Cherry MX Black; but in my state, i'm very used to working on Cherry POS keyboards which uses membrane keys that are suppose to simulate Cherry MX Blacks.  When standing up and working a strong key is mostly recommended because of the weight put on each key press, hence why Cherry MX Black is recommended in the work environment.  The key switch requires 60cN of pressure to reach its actuation point.

The typing experience is to be expected out of Mionix or any other mechanical keyboard manufacturer.  The keyboard has a special coating over which reduces finger prints and residue.  The inside is very strong with a steel reinforcement called "rage proof durability" which is quite nifty little feature.  The LED backlighting is really nice IMO.  It's a very subtle green unlike Razers Blackwidow keyboard where it is very bright.  In the dark it definitely won't strain your eyes.  Now the feedback when pressing is quite interesting.  It has a very quick release once pressed down.  I definitely can tell that they put in very strong springs which IMO is quite enjoyable and reassures if the keystroke.  Out of all the Cherry MX switches, i feel that it is the least likely of the bunch to make mistakes on.  Another cool feature is the windows key has been replaced with a function key.  For gaming, that's a really nice feature.  The wrist rest is plastic but has a nice coating like the rest of the keyboard so it feels almost seamless when attached.  It doesn't leave finger prints or any residue as well which is great.

Overall this is the first mechanical keyboard that i have officially owned.  I have messed around with a lot of mechanical keyboards from Corsair, Cooler Master, Razer, Ducky, Max, and Logitech.  Out of all of them i feel that Mionix isn't the best, but it has a great minimalist, stylistic, and great overall feel that other keyboards miss the mark on.  It may not have all the bells and whistles that other keyboards aim for and i find it that is the great selling point.  Pure keyboard with minimal flash; a great keyboard for fans of a minimalist or business look.  I'm a very happy customer.

Amazon is selling the keyboard for $131.73 : click here

nice... I just bought a razer blackwiddow tournament... i'm happy with it. not as flash as the rest of the razer line.

i just need to get a wrist-pad or whatever they're called.

i also had good experience with logitech prior to going mechanical. happy typing!

Glad you like it!  I have a Logitech G710+ coming soon!  Cherry MX browns.  That's going to be my first mech keyboard and OMG I can't wait!!

I to got a mechanical gaming keyboard, The Rosewill Apollo RK-9100xR with Cherry MX Blue and Red LED backlighting

I picked up my first mechanical keyboard about a year ago, and I immediately felt the difference. Typing, gaming, -- everything felt more precise and comfortable. In my opinion, buying a mechanical keyboard is one of the best purchases you can make.

i try 2 times mechanical with red and black switches. Too expensive, too uncomfortable for writing (but good for gaming), now got this http://genesis-zone.com/keyboards/rx22/ , cheap (arround 20$), 3 colors backlight, very nice to use (it's like old logitech ultraflat-x ), matte finish.

About 2 years ago I picked up a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate for $80 and I was in love with the idea of mechanical switches.

I now have a KBC Poker II with MX Browns and thick, white PBT keycaps on order. Really excited.
