Just finished my Build, Have some questions

So I've successfully finished my very first PC build. It was just about a complete success with the first boot into the BIOS. Ive since installed Win7 and installed all the "necessary" motherboard drives such as the USB, Chipset, Ethernet, and Audio. At least i beleve these are the only ones necessary? I'll list my detailed specs at the end. Anyways i got all the windows updates installed and made a system image and stored it on a USB drive. I ran some stress tests with Prime95, since im not overclocking i let it run for about 20ish minutes and the maximum degrees never got over 70C, is that good or bad (see my specs lists for what CPU etc.) I also stress tested the GPU with Furmark and it never went above 55C with its own boost clock.. this i might overclock more than it is originally just because i feel i have some leway room with the degrees. Now the only issue i preceed is when installing things, my mouse starts this wierd lag, but only on intense installs like windows updates when its using alot of RAM (about 40ish %) and pushing the CPU to about 45% load. Any idea as to what that is? So far that is my only concern otherwise i feel i have a solid build.. is there anything i should check out?

Specs:

NZXT Phantom 410 Mid-Tower ATX Case

MSI ZH77A-G43 ATX Motherboard

Intel i3 3220 - Stock heatsink

Gigabyte GTX 660

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) 1600Mhz OC

Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200RPM HDD

Seasonic M12II 620W PSU

Generic Optical Drive

With a stock heatsink, that is impressive. But, why did you go with the 3220? It is very overpriced for the performance it yields; an AMD alternative would have been better. Still, there is nothing to worry about with those temps. Why are you running Prime95 anyway? It is for testing high-end, CPU intensive systems. It isn't very useful for the everyday PC user.

Hmm good to know that the heat isnt to be worried about, it was just suggested to me by a friend to test it. It is also because I compile android on Linux and that pushes the CPU full load for a little over an hour or two first build and just wanted to make sure everything was stable. I would have went AMD but at the last minute to just go intel.. the inital AMD i would have choosen was the FX-4100 but was told it sucked. I didnt give it too much thought to be honest.

Have you installed all the necessary drivers? Does it lag in games, or just in Windows?

Im pretty sure i installed all the drivers... the mouse lags only in windows.. i havent expierenced any lag in Crysis 2(ME). I just got done playing for the first time on this build and its awesome. But yeah mouse only lags in windows.. its a wireless BT mouse and keyboard combo.. just some generic combo. Dont have a wired set to test.

If it's not the HDD then I suppose it's not a hardware problem. Check if the HDD is not faulty with some test utility, for exapmle HD Tune, or in your case of the Barracuda you can try Sea Tools for Windows which in theory can correct errors. If it's not the HDD I thinks it's come software issue. You could ask a friend or someone and borrow a wired mouse and see if it continues to lag. The other thing to ask is, does it annoy you and does it affect your multitasking. If not you can just leave it unsolved, I don't thinks it's anything major, just a minor bug.

yeah i googled around and think i may have found my solution. Had to do with making the resolution scale on the display not the GPU and having it full screen. That seemed to solve the issue for some.. and i have yet to see it happen again thus far.. well see if it does when i install something a little more intense than GPU-Z. I was initially thinking it was the HDD.. but then i defragged it and it should have been lagging when doing that.. but it was smooth as can be. I think i may have solved it ;).
