Just finished Brotherhood and loved it, finished the whole series in 3 days. Does anyone have any other series' that is similar in tone? This is the first anime series I really enjoyed it was the perfect amount of dark to flamboyant, most tend to be to eccentric and goofy for lack of a better word. Also how is the other 2003 FMA series or the manga? Are either of them worth checking out?
Manga > FMA:B >>>>>>FMA. Brotherhood is based off of the manga, and for the most part does an amazing job, but the Manga is ever so slightly better in pacing. Not a big deal, both are superb. The original anime is garbage. I'm lazy, so I'll just leave this here - http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Myuzaki - Find something with a 9 or 10, read the synopsis, and try it out.
Well if that was your only true like then you maybe walling off great genres. Honestly I loved both FMA's,but I wouldnt say FMA brotherhood scratches my top 10. What are your favorite Genres of anime, Personally I like romance,slice of life, and action. But overall I would say go with anything made by Bones or Gainax. Example even though Cowboy Bebop was officially made by Sunrise, the devision that made cowboy bebop soon left and created its own studio (Bones). That being I say you should watch Darker Than Black, Mahoromatic, or even the Tenchi Muyo OVAs (original and ryo ohki).
Couldn't agree more about the manga vs FMA:B... I don't know why, but the Mustang vs Lust fight was so much more epic in the manga. Might of been because I read it first, but Mustang looked so much more crazed in the manga.
Ok maybe these will work, Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto,Ao no Exorcist,Basquash!, Chrome Shelled Regios, Campione!: Matsurowanu Kamigami to Kamigoroshi no Maou, GetBackers, Black Lagoon,Gunslinger Girl,Air Gear, Beck(this one may make you want to create a band)...I normally try not to make a list this long, but your watching at a good clip...You may start to dream in Japanese, just a warning it has happened to me. I recommend Soul Eater, Attack on Titan, Steins;Gate, and Ao no Exorcist. Not my top 5, but good animes nontheless.
I watched brotherhood dubbed, would you say the subbed versions are always better? because that's what I keep hearing.
