Just built my gaming pc Updated [Benchmarks]

*Just updated benchmarks at the bottom of this post*

Hi guys, just built my 2nd gaming pc. Only took about 3 cuts to the finger, and taking 1 and a half hours to plug in the damn 24 pin connector...

Heres my build:

FX 8320

Asus mobo (M5A97) R2.0

HIS IceQ HD 7870 2gb

Antec vsk4000 case

Seagate 1TB hard drive

Corsair CX500M (not CX500, CX500M) :D

2x2GB 1333 mhz ram (was over my budget a bit, so i bought cheap ram, but im going to upgrade soon.)

I gotta question though lol... My cpu is at 42 C idle.. Is this normal LOL (using stock heatsink)

Total with shipping and taxes = $775. (including mouse+keyboard which was $20)

*Posting pictures as you read this (8:51am UTC Pacific)*

So it starts....

Started with the processor and then heatsink

My graphic card is huge!

Good thing I went with antec on the case :)

I cut myself putting in the graphic card >.>

It's done though!

This is what I meant by trying to plug in the 24-pin cable for 1 and a half hours...

Sounds good.

If that is your cpu temp I think that is ok, I checked my system and it is 41 degrees at idle. If that is your cpu core temp than it is high.

It dropped down to 40 C now :p

Do you know how much it is on load?

Not sure, I usually just pay attention to the core temp when I'm overclocking.

I have an 8350 and it idles in the high 30s, low 40's. Keep in mind that these 8 core CPUs from AMD draw a lot of power, and if you know physics, energy = heat....

I'd really recommend an aftermarket cooler. These stock AMD coolers really weren't made with the 8 cores in mind, sadly. They're small, loud, and just poor quality.

Even a 212 (like 30 bucks?) would be a great upgrade. I feel like my CPU idles at a godly temperature foe the stock cooler, because I put several hours of work just into lowering the temps...

Stock cooler is still awful.

Under load, expect about 60-70c. I'd have your GPU as far away as possible. Having mine in the closest slot possible makes the temps a little higher (heat rises..)

Man.... the Chipstet drivers are 1.2GB !

And I happen to have slow internet just at this moment >.<

With an aftermarket cooler, this'll be a pretty good system. Well done sir. Can you now please shawe your beard for me?

Can't find my USB cable for my camera >.<!!!! It's not a standard micro usb, it's some stupid special one.. I'll upload pics tomorrow :)

Everythings working good though, Skyrim on maxed out settings on 1920x1080 was 70 fps, Far cry 3 maxed out @ 1920x1080 was 50 fps, and I am downloading BF3 right now- I'll update when its done..

I should go to sleep hehe, it's 1:32

Night

Yeah, 40C is to be expected with a stock cooler. You should probably get a decent aftermarket cooler.

Btw, that cable management is giving me nightmares.

Cable.. what? I don't beleive I've heard of this "Cable Management" you speak of.

(=B)

I've never really done any cable managment, I just stuff the unused cables in the 5.25" bays, and zip tie the rest of the cables together haha

The cable management is absolutely... oh well, you know what i'm going to say. It's not that hard, grab a bunch of wires and strap them together with a tiewrap.

I tried doing so, but my Sata power cable was a bit short, and the PCI power cables stretched out a lot, which made it impossible to make it all neat.

Ah well, when my case is closed, I don't see anything inside LOL

Looks good man! If you really want to tear your hands to shreds buy a Zalman heatsink to replace the stock, They are literally made out of over 9000 knife blades. But yeah, when you can upgrade the RAM to 2x4 1866 and get a heatsink.

Awesome build man! Not sure how you cut yourself so many times, the only time I cut myself during one of my builds is when I was trying to (for some absurd reason) do something with my graphics card while the computer was running, I cut my thumb so badly.

I guarantee you that if you spend more than 5 minutes on it, you could do some decent cable management. Either that or you need a better case. Cable management should be a high priority btw. Not only does it look nice when you manage them, but a messy case will restrict airflow to your parts and can contribute to overheating.

Thanks

I cut my self twice taking out the bracket for my graphic card, and once when I was plugging in the 24 pin power connector lol.

Great sofa, it looks comfy as hell, what kind of benchmarks does that pull!!!

Nice rig mate, and nice work proof with that finger :D

Should be right under the pictures, but here they are :p
