Hello I am new here but followed the Tek Syndicate guide to build my new computer. First I will list parts I used and am using followed by the problems I am having!
-Asus 990 FX Sabertooth r2.0 -AMD FX 8350 4.0hz -Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler -16x GB Gskill RAM - EVGA Geforce GTX 670 4GB -Cosair 850W PSU - CASE - Rosewill Armor - EVO (6 Case fans)
- Using a borrowed 20" HP Monitor until my 27" Shimian comes in.
It took me 10 straight hours to build as I was over cautious and wanted to follow the guide to the "t".
I turned it on and the CPU cooler fans turned on and the GPU fan and one of the back fans turned on, but not the other's that I had slots for on the MOBO.
I turnd it off and asked a friend and turned it back on and near the CPU / RAM area it cracked, popped and sparked then ram like it did when I first turned it on.
I finally decided to plug in the monitor using the DVI attachment so the monitor could work. It Just does the whole " DVI - Scanning / VGA - Scanning" then goes to the "No Signal"
I am very new to computers and building so excuse me if any of this is normal.
Here is an update after changing fans around.
Turning on the power supply and hitting the power button on the case I hear the optical drive kick on and make a funny noise, then my top 2 CASE fans turn on, along with my CPU cooler and GPU. There is a green light on the bottom of the board and a red LED by what says " CPU LED"
It sounds quiet and seems to run alright, even after that spark incident.
I have the speaker tht ame with the MOBO hooked in but did not hear any beep.
Sorry for the long post. I am just very concerned I wasted $1500.
sparks are never good when it comes to computers. What you have failed to mention is that if it actually works or not. If it runs normally then there is no real reason to be concerned. If everything turns on as you have said, but the RED CPU LED remains on, then it means that your processor is not functioning correctly. You could have a faulty cpu, but I think with the sparks that you mentioned, you did not mount the cpu in the socket correctly. mY adevice would be to unmount the cooler, and inspect the pins on the bottom of the cpu, if any of thyrm are bent, then there's you problem. ands for the love of god do not try to bend them back, they will just break, they are so fine. You will have to RMA, and hope they give you a refund/replacement. I hope you find a solution to your issue.
Yeah haha I was going to work on getting it prettier but I broke everything :( what a huge dissapointment. If the Ram lights and the CPU lighta come on it has to be the MOBO right? The CPU pins look great,
did you used the right materials to install the mainbord in the case,? looks to me whenn you had sparks in the cpu area, then there muss be some short cirquit, did you uses distance holders? and the right screws? to fasten the mainboard to the backplate of the case? if not ... you blew up the mainboard.
cpu install is easy normaly you cant do much wron, on the angle of the cpu socket is a delta mark, on the cpu it selfs is also a delta mark, those have to match up, and thats the only way you cpu will go in smoothly.
if i was you... take out the mainboard from youre case, lay it on a wooden surface or some where what is not metal, like the box of the mainboard, plug in de power connecters en the power button from the case, and try to boot it, outside of the case, maybe there is some screw who tieded to much or, make short cirquits to the case some where.
i dont think its youre cpu, cause wenn you look good you cant do much wrong about it, i think you made a mistake attaching the mainboard in the case, or the mainboard is just faulty, if the board doesnt work, the put it back rma, the board can be faulty out of box too :)
That brings up a good point, actually. You should always test boot your entire system before actually assembling in the case. It will really help with stuff like this.
Just a side note, DON'T EVER BOOT WITHOUT SOMETHING COOLING YOUR CPU!!!!! Your computer will burn down and die. But, in toherwords, it's probably your motherboard.
yes please build on the stock 8350 cooler, then boot again, most mainboards will not boot, without a installed cooler...
i see no thermal paste on the installed cpu?
where did you have the sparks? left side next to the cpu socket?
then you probably did with a short cirquit, and blewup youre vrms
Onthis picture you have installed the cpu correctley. so thats why i think its not youre cpu!
please put the stock cooler on
and try to boot again, if its not work, send mainboard back as faulty out of box you can allways try it
the main things why i think its not the cpu, is cause the memory led stays red to, that means there is something wrong with both memory and cpu, but i think thats not the issue, i think, the VRM´s died
I am sure it wont just burst in flames and burn.. Nowadays cpu's and motherboards have safety features that shut down the pc to protect the hardware in case of extreme temperatures and such..
