Joining the PC Master Race

You'll be A LOT more satisfied and more future-proofed with a gtx 780, by going with a FX 8350 instead of intel.

In all honesty from my point of view.  Get a 120gb SSD for OS and a 1TB HDD for games etc to start with.  Keep the 4770k I get between 26% - 40% cpu load with planet side 2 on my 3770k.  With HT off I was sitting around 55 - 70% Even hitting 80% Load.

Hyperthreading really helps to keep the Min and Avg Fps up.  Even if a game doesn't take advantage of 8 threads you can still spread the load across processors to keep the total load down by disabling core parking.

Also check out these SSD optimization guides.

This second one is a bit more advanced but still good reference none the less.

If you want to save a bit on the motherboard get a Z87 Pro.  It has more in the way of connectivity features than the Maximus VI Hero but doesn't skimp on performance.  Which is really an over the top enthusiast overclockers board and is not worth getting unless you get a really good chip and a massive watercooling setup.

Though the colour scheme is awesome.  And the audio is up there.  But you can always slap in dedicated Audio card later on anyway.

Don't rush in have a good read up and a good think about the parts your looking at.  Practicality VS Aesthetics is up to you.

Other good GPUs to look at would be 660ti, 670, 7950, 7970 if you can pick up one of the last 3 cheap enough and wait for a price drop/more variants of the GTX 780 is another way to go.  You can always pick up a second hand card from the EVGA forums with warranty intact.  Easy if you're in North America.

And PSUs there are a few options available.

You've got XFX 750w Silver Semi-Modular, Corsair TX 750M Semi-Modular /HX 750 Semi-Modular /AX 760 Full Modular.

I found this site quite good for getting the break down on PSUs.

And yeah, Prolimatech PK1 is really good.

Enjoy the read.

so the EVGA 650 or 750 wouldn't be able to handle the 770? and yea i'm def gonna go with the Z87 Pro thanks for all the links btw bud

Yeah no prob.  Sure they can handle it no worries.  But I'm not about to recommend them without some reasearch on my part.  It's EVGA so they're most likely good quality PSU.  Some of the best customer support too.

Also if your budget allows for a 780 that would be the one to get.  2GB is becoming a bit short on it if you're into modding skyrim.  And the witcher 3 looks very demanding.

mehhhhh it would put me over my limit, would the 770 be fine for now and then later getting another 770 basically do the same job if not better in SLI? and would the HHD be essential or could i wait a couple months, all i would really play for now would be PS2, BF4 when it comes out and Fifa 14

No prob.  2GB seems fine atm, really it's only moddable games like skyrim that will tip past the 2GB mark.

But if you want to do SLI you'll be needing something reliable so put your research in.

I was just having a nosey at this PSU.  Been thinking about getting this or the 860w for myself.

As brennanriddell said above pick up the Lepa G650W 80+ gold psu, its cheaper. or arround the same price. but this psu has a single 12V rail.

The evga is not a bad psu, but is has 4 12V rails with each 20A of max current. so this could cost you headaces wenn installing a GTX 770, because you need to know how you connect it with 4 rails. i would say pickup the Lepa is a way better!

Grtz Angel ☺

I just read a couple of reviews on the EVGA.  It's not very impressive.  Too expensive for what it delivers and the other offerings out there are much smarter choices.  And yeah Multi-Rail.  The price of aesthetics.

thanks for the help everyone, now that, that is solved, the 250 GB ssd good enough to hold BF4, PS2, Fifa, and the new GTA as well as windows 8 ? just trying to keep costs for now down

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1ctlO updated parts list

the monitor seems to be what i'm looking for unless the response time of 2 is a bit of a overkill, i've mostly just played on a laptop so monitor and all of this is new to me :3

It will be enough to hold those games But you will probably want more storage before long. I would either get an 8gb set of 1600mhz ddr3 as you dont need more than 8 for gaming and add 1tb drive to the build or just plan on adding a drive before too long (also a valid way to go).
