J4005 RAM limit?

I have some 2400 DDR4 sticks no longer in use, as I recently upgraded. Tried to sell them, but people will pay very very little because of the low speed - so I wilk keep them.

Was looking up what to use them with, and the J4005 came to mind

I found a cheap asus board that seem to work for what I had in mind, a silent linux machine

But why did they limit the CPU to max 8gb and what would happen if I installed my 2x8 DDR2400 dimms?

It may not be the memory controller but the PCH Hub Controller/Chipset with this limitation.

I remember older motherboards in the DDR2 and DDR3 era that had a 4GB limit with only 3 ~ 3.2GB addressable.

Hmm yeah maybe… Its just odd, because i can see a similar setup is used in some Intel NUCs, and they support 16gb RAM

So I would assume its not the chip that cant handle it, but they limited the board somewhere else, which to me is strange
