Logan mentioned in The Tek 0006 at about 6:45 that he would do an Ivy Bridge Buying Guide article at some point when he could but I've used the search engine on the site and can't seem to find one.
Did it just get forgotten or am I just inept at using a search engine?
Ivy bridge is definetley the way to go. A lot of people still believe in Sandy bridge processors because of their performance, but getting an Ivy bridge processor will allow you to unlock the speed of PCI-E generation 3 support, as well as more features that are not on Sandy bridge.
I would also like to add if you go ivy bridge you should Invest in a good water cooling kit such as a h100 or nzxt kraken x60 . Reason being you will not be able to push ivy bridge very far on a cheap air cooler as you can with sandy bridge processors. Reason for the extra heat is it is a 22nm process instead of a 32nm so the cores getter hotter since they are closer? I'm am not 100% sure that's why Ivybridge gets hot when you increase the voltage, but that is what I heave read. In conclusion Ivybridge is faster when clocked at the same frequency as a sandybridge proccesor and has extra features, but sandybridge proccesors can be pushed farther when overclocking.
Ivy bridge, you really dont need to overclock. The performance im getting out of my 3570k is more then enough for me. (at default settings) And im at about 35C idle and 40C under load which is far below any serious temperatures. Whatever your prefrence is should be fine as long as good for you.
