I've started my dream

About a month ago the IT guy at my friend's workplace gave me a call to see if I was interested in a job. I said I was interested, and I was told to come in the next Monday. When I went in, the guy told me the responsibilities and asked if I was still interested. I said yes then proceeded to fill out the paperwork. While I was filling out the paperwork, I requested $10/hour on the application. When the guy went over it with me he said, "I see you requested $10/hour, I would like to start you on $15...” HOLY SHIT, I'm still in high school and most of my friends are making minimum wage at Kroger.

Anyways, I love this job. I manage users on a network, troubleshoot PC’s, make databases, etc. Just the other day I threw a pitch to my boss about setting up a VDI for the high-risk PCs. He told me, “actually I have a quote on that and it might be in the budget.” I’m loving my job and I can’t imagine a better way to start my career.

I have seen quite a few instances where real life job experience such as that is far more valuable than a college degree!! I've had coworkers in the IT field are only making $.50 more per hour because they had a bachelors. I had no certifications at the time or college. I'm not saying don't go to college but just saying that job is more valuable than you know!!

having a dream is a good thing
good luck man :)

It is nice to hear someone enjoying their job. Be appreciative of it though as like you said you are making more than you expected and more than your friends in high school and so maybe throw some money to charity once in awhile to give back to society. Also take some of that extra income and start saving as it adds up in 20 or 30 years. Anyway best of luck in your job/career hoping it turns into all you want it to be.
