This is my new build I'm thinking of doing. I just had a few questions on it.
(1.) I realize the Phenom M is a little small but I really like the way this case looks as well as it's form factor. Will everything be cool enough for me to run games and such? Or is this a pipe dream?
(2.) I realize the 290x may be a little overkill but I want to make sure I can drive both of those 1440p displays. I am open to suggestions though.
(3.) Will that Noctua cooler be alright for the CPU, I do not plan to do any overclocking in the near future?
(4.) Any other comments/suggestions are welcome.
I currently have this build:
Case: Antec 300
Motherboard: Asus H87-Pro
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770 non-K with stock cooler
Memory: 32GB Gskill RipJaws X Series
GPU: HIS Radeon 7870 GHz Edition
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 250GB
Optical: Generic DVD burner
Monitor: 2x AOC 23" 1080p 60hz.
I want to move this setup down stairs for work and have the new build strictly for gaming. Then get rid of my Core 2 build with 19" monitors.
Have you considered holding off until devils canyon? They are supposed to be better overclockers, have a 4 GHz base clock, and come out this month.
EDIT: I just saw you don't plan on doing overclocking in the near future, buy you'd still benefit from the boosted base clock if you wait a few weeks for the 4790k. It will be the same price as the 4770k, and if you decide in the future to overclock I think you'll be glad you waited.
sounds like a plan. More than anything I'm just curious whether I will regret the Bitfenix case, I'm hoping with the Noctua cooler and fans I don't have anything to worry about.
Your cpu should be fine. The gpu might make things a little warm, but since it has a nice aftermarket cooler that will help a lot. I've never used a case that small so I can't tell you exactly what it'll be like, but I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.
If you are worried about cooling, just slap a 230mm fan on the bottom, and if the noctua cooler won't block, 2 120mm fans to the top. I would put the 230mm fan as an intake and the 120mm top fans as exahust so the GPU would get fresh air straight for the big fan, and meanwhile the big noctua tower would keep the CPU very cool. Another option for you would be using an AIO liquid cooler if you are concerned about the noctua cooler not fitting in the case :)
