I've got a grand, $1,000 dollars to spend

And I want to spend it all on a new GPU, I don't know what to get because with that much money theres hundreds of card to choose from! So help me out?

Here's what I don't want.

  • SLI or Crossfire configuration (don't recommend it)
  • High power consumption card
  • anything below 3 GB's of GDDR5 (Unless you explain why)

Here's what I want to do with it.

  • Play most if not all games on ultra. ( IE, really looking forward to BF4, and Saint Row 4 whenever I can get my hands on them )
  • 1 up all my friends.

My system specs currently, except my GPU.

  • AMD Phenom II x4 965
  • 16 gig's G.Skill 1600
  • Windows 8 64 bit pro (Start is in fact back ;)
  • C: Ocz Vertex 3 50gb
  • D: Seagate Barracuda 1tb 7200rpm
  • Corsair GS700 (700 watts)

Not sure why youd spend so much on a gpu, the value of a gpu halves about every year. If you want to spend that much on a single gpu card wait for the hd 9970, it should be out this month and become the fastest single gpu card. I think i heard somewhere that it will have 4 gb ram, but that could easily be wrong, it should be at least 3 though. I cannot believe that the 9970 will cost above 700, so you can throw some money on the streets or burn up some Benjamin Franklins.

You should look into a GPU, CPU, and mobo upgrade while you're at it. GTX 780 if you want to Fold, 7950/70 if you want to game. If you get the 780, youprobably can't get a very good CPU/mobo combo in there (bottom line Z87 + 4670k or 8350 with moderate mobo), but with a 7950 or 7970, which are kickass cards for the cost, then you could get a 4770k, with a really nice mobo, or even another SSD.

Are titans under $1000? like $999? anyway... I love my 780. Plays everything on Ultra at 1440p. I went 780 just because more value oriented from the titan saving $300 for what %5 increase I think?

I don't know. Just buy the most expensive since you're out to impress all your friends.

Make a ITX system.

ASUS Z87-K

Intel i5 54430

XIGMATEK Dark Knight IISD1283

BitFenix Co. Ltd. BFC-PRO-300-WWXKW-RP Case

Lite-On iHAS124-04 CD-Rom

Kingston Technology Corp. SV300S37A/120G SSD

Rosewill RG530-S12 PW

EVGA 02G-P4-2763-KR GTX 760

G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

Total $900 on Newegg. $30 more for a 7950, and $100 for a extra hard drive.

Point is you can do alot more for $1000.

7950 CF or GTX 760 SLI is under $600 and that can run anything in 1440p. In less you have 3 2560x1600 monitors (which in that case GTX 780 SLI) then there's no point spending more then you should.

save it for black friday.

+1. I'd also say this is the best course of action. Or alternatively you can purchase a GTX 780 which plays everything on Ultra.

Wait for the new Radeon 9000 series, get a SSD and new CPU, the CPU will most likely bottleneck your whole computer once you get a new GPU

A SSD because 50GB cant hold it much longer
