iTunes won't import inserted CDs

I bought a new computer recently and I'm trying to import all of my audio CDs onto iTunes. For some reason iTunes doesn't recognize the CD unless I open Windows Media Player. Only then does iTunes attempt to import the CD. Anyone else having this problem?

Try going into iTunes Edit > Preferences > When you insert a CD and change those settings to what you want. You may also have to go into Windows Settings > System > Default Apps and change your music player to iTunes.

if you're ripping CDs.

use Exact Audio Copy, and follow the propper ripping guide with gap detection and read offset.
