Its not really worth it for me to overclock

so i ran the bioshock infinite benchmark at different over clocks on my r9 270 and this is what i got;

gpu:955mhz memory:1400mhz: 48.48fps avg

gpu:965mhz memory:1410mhz: 48.87avg

gpu:975mhz memory:1420mhz: 49avg

gpu:985mhz memory:1430mhz: 49.92avg

gpu:995mhz memory:1440mhz: 49.89avg

gpu:1015 memory:1450mhz: 49.54avg

p.s i think the decrease at higher frequency is just the benchmark in-accuracy

those are some good gains.

you call than an overclock?

yeah its summer and its hot so i didnt go too far, i might go further next week when i have my operation done and im out of hospital

1 frame every 50mhz i dont want to do that

I would leave memory clocks alone and just play with core clocks for now.

ok but just wondering, why is that

Memory overclocks have limited gains for gaming and can limit your core oc. I still oc mine, but only after reaching top stable core speed. If you didn't BSOD you didn't try! Just my opinion of course.

It's not like your loosing anything its free FPS. Also you should really benchmark more than one game do at least 2 more then try a benchmark like Heaven

so just out of curiosity i ran the bench as well

stock: 1050/1250 65.24fps

oc: 1200/1400 71.6fps

as a whole it might seem trivial, and in many cases it might be, but when something isn't performing quite up to where you'd like a few extra frames can make a noticeable difference, and the big thing can be the much less crippling fps drops, as in that bench the minimum fps went from 1 to 10, both are bad, but one is significantly less bad

or Valley as well, i have strictly move to only heaven and valley benchmarks as of recent... plus great scenes :)

if i didnt fuck it up i didnt try? haha lol, well thats one way of finding the limits

what did you run the benchmark on

ok ill take your advice on it

amd octa/7870, i may have run it at a lower setting than you, might explain the significant difference between your highest and my lowest

i run it maxed on a msi r9 270 and an intel i5 4430

sure let me know how you get on with it

100 mhz past stock with .5 fps increase on ungine heaven :'(

Like I said try a few games and 1 or 2 benchmarks. Overclocked performance may increase more in certain games. A good game to benchmark with if you have it is BF4 as although it has network issues the actual performance is very solid. Also I checked your profile to get an idea of what specs you have and more info would help. Oh and remove that link from your profile it's technically advertising.
