IT School - Blog #1

Normally, people post an update to a blog every day or two; however, considering how they "teach" at this school, it will have to be weekly updates.

Normally, I would have just taken the certification test to be certified, rather than to attend school, however, I am a poor son of a dog, and I need the extra money from the grants I am getting. You see, I don't have to pay a single penny out-of-pocket to attend this school, so why the hell not?

Anyway, on the first day of class, the teacher, Debra, stood at the front of the class talking about a few pages of the rulebook for 2342834827348273647 hours when it should have only taken 10 minutes. she gave us the rundown of emergency procedures, class scheduling, breaks and lunch, mormon desires, etc, and it was very simplistic, yet overwhelming at the same time. I swear, I was thinking I was going to die from boredom....que really bad portal 2 joke here.....

The next part of discovery was actually quite interesting; you would think that most of the class would be hands-on work...NOPE.AVI.. There is a website called Test Out where you log in, enter a test voucher, and are submited into a virtual classroom. Inside this "class room", you have video and text based resources about computer hardware and software, and the most interesting virtual simulation I have ever seen....

You go inside, and you can work with the PC parts, installing hardware, move cables, EVERYTHING...I mean, this piece of shit is so fun to play with, it's almost scary. While I was wishing they would give the new people some PROPER hands-on work, I guess this can work, too....

As far as class breaks go, we are allowed only two, one at 10 A.M. and another at 2:00P P.M., excluding lunch, which is at 12:00 P.M. for thirty minutes. My friend "DoYouEvenTriforce" and I will usually go into a really small consession room where they have vending machines and eat, talk about life, technology, mormon desires, and more. I do believe we will get along here very well.

As of this blog entry, there is really not much I can type, as not much has happened yet <3, however, as the class progresses and more work is finished, I will be able to make more MEANINGFUL posts about this school and my experience here...I just hope it doesn't turn out like dem mormons <3

I'll post again next week with a more professional and detailed blog entry.

cool

I saw a typo, flipped shit at how anyone could misspell "penny," and went to play Shaiya.

Do you get the impression that this school knows their stuff and that their curriculum will actually be relevant and worth learning, or does it seem like a half-assed kind of place? I'm kind of curious if the material on TestOut is written by the school or if it's sourced from a 3rd-party. If it's outsourced that kind of seems pretty half-assed as it would in my opinion imply that they didn't have the competence to write the curriculum themselves.

I can honestly say it seems well-rounded.  It's user-friendly, but not too user-friendly.  The program features a handful of people with years of experience and are top-notch professionals who know what they're talking about.  There are even a couple of times where he (the current e-instructor I'm up to) adds a bit of dry humor to loosen the tensions and stress of studying.  My only problem wth TestOut is the faulty video playback when during a demonstration.  It's very choppy and quite irritating to watch when he's trying to circle something during a demonstration because it seems like he's pointing in five different points.

tl;dr good stuff but choppy video.

I can agree 110 percent on that

Oh jesus, fucking TestOut. 260 question domain tests, man...
