Alright so is the new devils canyon in 4790k compatible with my MSI z87 g45?
Nope the new devil's canyon CPUS only work with the Z97 Chipset. however Old Haswell CPUS like the 4670k and the 4770k do work on the Z97 Chipset.
yes the cpu is compatible if the bios is updated.
According to it's CPU support list it is not . . . but the 4790, t and s are supported. I don't get this why is the k not supported?
This is just don't true. There are many 1150 boards that have updates to support the "Haswell Refresh" including MSI, ASUS and EVGA boards. And i think there are more to come.
not necessarily. what i meant to say its not supposed to. ASUS is the only one that has rebelled against intel and is just pointing at intel and laughing screaming "YOU MAD?" and is releasing a bios update to support Devil's Canyon on the Z87 Chipset. what is to come is that if everyone starts to follow in ASUS's shoes and do the same and release a Bios update.
Intel is just greedy
as of the 1.8 Bios Both the 4790K and 4690K are supported
http://us.msi.com/product/mb/Z87G45_GAMING.html#support
I use this board and check the website periodically for what updates happen with it. the update of K variants was in the last 24hour, but the 1.8 bios is a few days old
Indeed, like i also said above, its compatible if the bios is updated.
But yeah if op allready has this mobo, and a i5-4670K or i7-4770K, then there is realy no point for upgrading.
But if he is looking for a new cpu + mobo, i would suggest, just to grab a Z97 board. More feutures, compatible out of the box, etc etc. just makes life easier you know ☺
