Issues with new PC

I recently built a new computer.  I used a Asus Z97-A M/B and a 4770K CPU. I currently have it overclocked to 4.4Ghz.

Recently, I started noticing some lag when moving around windows and popping when playing audio.  I didn't see any process causes the issue but I did notice all the process running were using more CPU then they should.  I booted up CPU-Z and saw something weird.  For some reason my Bus Speed was jumping around.  It should be set to 100Mhz but it was jumping between 28, 42, 50, 100 and 170.  I have no idea why it would move from 100.

Hoping someone can shine some light on this issue.

Although there are some bus speed settings in my Z97-Pro that I haven't thought about looking at, that sounds a bit too wierd. If it looks the same with the latest version of CPU-Z (old versions might not work well with new hardware), then I'd try loading the BIOS defaults.

What is throwing me off is that I used the Asus overclocking software and in the setup I picked overclocking using the multiplier only.  Sure enough in uefi it was set to “ratio tuning”.  So I am not sure why the BCLK would starts bouncing around. If I set everything to optimized default in uefi I still catch it going up and down sometimes.

Last night I went into uefi and switched the BCLK/Strap from Auto to 100.  Since then I haven’t seen it move from 99.98Mhz in CPU-Z.

Maybe it’s just normal behavior in Auto and I am just looking in the wrong place to fix this latency/lag issue. :-/
