Issues with New Gaming Monitor – Ghosting & Input Lag, Need Suggestions

Hey all,

I recently picked up a new gaming monitor, and I’m running into a couple of issues I can’t seem to resolve. Hoping to get some advice or if anyone has experience with a similar problem.

Problem #1: Ghosting
One of the first things I noticed when I started gaming on the monitor (https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/d/accessories-and-monitors/monitors/gaming-monitors/) is noticeable ghosting, especially in fast-moving games like Apex Legends and Overwatch.
I’ve tried tweaking the settings in the OSD (On-Screen Display), like turning on G-Sync, enabling the overdrive feature, and adjusting refresh rates, but the ghosting effect still lingers.
From what I’ve read, it seems like a common issue on some fast refresh rate monitors, but I’m wondering if there are specific settings or firmware updates that might help eliminate this?

Problem #2: Input Lag
I also noticed a slight input lag when playing competitive shooters. It’s subtle, but it’s enough to make me feel off when trying to hit fast targets.
I’ve turned on “Low Latency Mode” in the monitor’s settings and also in the NVIDIA Control Panel, but it doesn’t seem to help much. The lag isn’t noticeable during casual gameplay, but in fast-paced matches, it definitely becomes an issue.

I’m starting to wonder if it’s an issue with my GPU or if there’s something wrong with the monitor itself. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with this model or any other high refresh rate IPS displays?

Also, for those of you using gaming monitors with a fast refresh rate, how do you have yours configured for optimal performance? Any insights into what settings or tricks I might be missing would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

That is just a generic list of monitors, you did not specify which is it…

Having said that, half of the monitors listed are VA, and if that is the case you are most likely SOL on that “ghosting”. VA is noticeably slow to transition from black to gray and it will cause “VA smearing” especially in darker scenes. Really high end monitors might have that figured out, but my LG VA is horrible, something that even I notice at 165Hz.
As for input lag, I’m way too old to notice that, and can’t say if VA smear is the cause or something else.

Basically they put 2 or 4ms transition time, but that is the fastest possible one, and black to gray is not even close to that.
